Affluent African American Family, Considering Rockville Area (Bethesda, Potomac: for sale, rental)

I think you will fit in fin ein whatever area you reside in because you feel being affluent means you must be around people who are affluent. There are many affluent African Americans in the State of MD and we socialize and live in different parts of the county. Your statement required a comment from me. I tell my students all the time if God has blessed you and you have made choices in life that make you successful never feel to good to or superior to be around others. I am often amazed when I observe parents who feel their child is to superior to be with another child. The other avaerage child who comes from the average home is usually the one who wins all the scholarships and has an awesome humble disposition.
I must tell this story. When my child was in Elementary a parent had paid for her child to have private violin lessons and another student was from a poor family who seriously struggled just to make ends meet. During the concert the child from the wealthy family refuse to play with the other girl so the music teacher gave them both solos. The young lady who had private lesson played like an average learning student. They introduced who she was studying under a make a big deal about it. Everyone in the audience was shocked by how poorly she played. The poor girl who borrowed the teachers v instrument and the school PTA purchased an instrument for her. This young lady played like a professional an dreceived a standing ovation. I sat this to the parent coming from California that today you may be wealthy and tommorrow you may be living next door to the people you call lower class. Nothing is promised in life.

Truthhurts: What the hell are you talking about. If you notice Mom21 mention Fort Washington and also mention that the area doesnot have shopping. I was letting posters know that Fort Washington do have shopping,restaurants in the National Harbor.

This is not about you getting attention its about the poster who wants a nice area to live. I am speaking the truth about Fort Washington it do have the National Harbor.
When folks on here mention Rockville or other areas in Montgomery County they mention White Flint or Montgomery mall why not ask other posters If they work for White Flint or Montgome mall. The national Harbor is located in Fort Washington so what if I tell folks what the area have to offer.

I think what you are saying applies to a time in the past where kids didn't nearly beat you to death if you are "different". Coming from Cali AND upper class they are going to speak and act a bit more laid back. Kids now are cruel and it could be a safety issue-especially since a lot of the DC riff-raff is moving into PG county. I don't condone looking down on kids (cause MY kids are a day away from being the poor kid). There is a very large problem with the urban kids wanting to keep it real and downplay any talents and mental abilities that would make them stand out.

As an AKA you yourself joined an organization that seperates itself based on common goals, academic achievement, community service and social activities. How is that any different than what the OP is asking to do?.

Wow! I was hoping to avoid this, but silly me for throwing the trigger word affluent into my question. I only wanted to get a sense of areas that are considered expensive in the Rockville area and find out if they are also diverse....Not intended to be snooty, offensive, etc. Thanks for those that replied with helpful information!

Lets see..usually people who are "affluent" do not tell others they are "affluent". I question the OP's level of affluency. I am a pretty "affluent"
little fella myself (I guess, anybody can be affluent on City-Data LOL) and I do not go around telling people that I am "affluent". OP is a scam, busted!!

its an EXCELLENT resource in my opinion and very useful to pinpoint an ideal community that fits your lifestyle. You can do a search with a zipcode, median cost of homes, and whether neighbors are low, middle, or upper class, ect. and find what you are looking for.

I put in a search and found that the most "affluent" (price ranges ranging from 750k-1mil) neighborhoods near rockville are in Bethesda and Potomac. Specifically, you can check out longwood/green tree manor and westgate/green acres in Bethesda. Also, beverly farms/scotland in potomac.

The word "affluent" is a very stupid word and very subjective in meaning. I do not know any "affluent" people that go around telling others than they are "affluent". I can't imagine Bill Gates or Warren Buffett going around telling people that they are "affluent". I still do not understand the need to include the word "affluent" or "African American". Could have asked about "upper middle class neighborhoods".. who cares if black, white, blue or green people live there. All this coming from "bigbluelandrover"..don't tell me you are affluent too? If you are not affluent, dont even answer because I can't stand being even close to "non-affluent" people. Gosh, It feels good to be "affluent"!

SRS: It seems you and your family are hard workin gfamily an dif you and your family want to live in one of the most expensive area in Rockville isay go for it. you can live where ever you choose as long as you can afford it.
People tend to talk about poor blacks,ghetto blacks but here we have an Affluent AA who can afford to live in the most expensive area in Rockville and we get negative response. I hope you and your family enjoy Maryland and I hope some folks on here do not scare you and your family away from the state of Maryland not all folks in Maryland believe their are no such thing as wealthy AA.
