Have relatives just outside O.C., have gone down to visit many times but never attempted on a holiday weekend. Wondering if I should attempt to come down for 4th of July weekend, of if the traffic and crowds will be so terrible that I should just stay home in NJ and make other plans?

We would probably be heading to the beach in Chincoteauge, VA rather than O.C. Beach if that makes any difference.

Thanks for the help.

So much of a nightmare that nobody goes there.

Just like Toots Shor's night club.

I didn't say that. The OP asked what it was like. I answered. If one thinks it's an easy day in and out they would be wrong.

Last year they raised the public parking rates on July 4th to something like $100 for the day. Of course the beach is free.

I was making a joke on the Yogi Berra/Toots Shor quotation.

omg just GO. You'll be fine. Yes, there will be lots of people there. Yes, there will be traffic. Having lived in OC I can tell you that as long as you get there early you will be fine. And by early I mean 7 o clock.

The entire Atlantic seaboard is a mess during holidays in the summer. Everyone wants to go to the beach and everyone is millions of people trying to go to a very few hot spots. OC, VB, NC...any of it is best if you avoid holidays and weekends are horrible as it is.
I've lived in MD for 40 years and have been to all the nearby beaches during all holidays.
