Who are Marylanders?
Really....We are recent transplants...living in Rockville is a REAL hard judge. We won't be moving for a very long time if ever....like retirement...kids are 6 & 4 1/2. We just want to feel like we belong lol, which we do we somewhat, we want to get into local culture etc. We have been to OC, Bmore, @ DC, around Mont. county.
What we are wondering what do ya all do! We blend well lol.
Thanks all.

If you live in Montgomery County, don't worry about trying to be a MDer, that would put you in the minority there. Just try to be a Washingtonian, that will help you blend better.

And be sure to pronounce it "Wa rshingtonian"
But seriously - Montgomery County (and Rockville especially) is such a mish mash of people and cultures you should feel like you are living in a Global Village there.

Do you sleep on "pillas" and put "awl" in the car like here on the Eastern Shore?
I don't think there is a Rockville accent.
Rockville even calls the area where Veirs Mill Road hits Rockville Pike (355)"The Mixing Bowl"

LOL, no. I grew up too close to DC to have much of an accent. I'm in Laurel now and I have noticed more of a country drawl from the people born and raised here. Maryland really has no distinct, statewide accent. Its funny for such a small state.

So this is it LOL!
I do NOT consider Rockville any part of DC. Originally from Minneapolis, thats like considering Eden Prairie MPLS LOL! Now thats Funny! Even though its 20-30 min. w/o traffic.
All we see is Strip Malls, Shopping Plaza's, etc. blah blah blah. House after house. there isn't even a "Local Bar" in Rockville.
What does anyone do here? besides goto work and go home.

Hmmm....I don't know anything about Eden Prarie MPLS, etc.
If you just moved to Rockville you may not yet realize how dependent the city is on D.C. Just ask around and see how many people that you live near work in D.C., how many work for the Fed. or with a government contracting firm. Check out the traffic into Washington each day and then examine the traffic north towards Frederick.
Rockville was just a little cowtown until the D.C. suburban explosion that has taken place since the 1950s. Do you wonder why Rockville is all houses and strip malls? It is because it is a bedroom community for D.C.! The residents go into D.C. for bars, culture, recreation, etc.
You can certainly some find some fine distinctions that separate the various parts of the D.C. metro area, but the entire metro area functions as one economic, cultural, and demographic entity.

Eden Prairie (houses)(malls) pop. @50k to Minneapolis (houses) (malls)(bars)(museums)(etc.) pop. @400k
Similar to Rockville to DC.
I realize how dependent the entire REGION is on the GOV.
we are just trying to figure out what HAPPENS here. moved here in Feb.

Rockville is a suburb what do you expect? So a good portion of people are going to go work in either D.C., the I-270 corridor or NOVA. Actually Rockville is more than just strip malls and houses it does have some kind of history. Have you've been to actual city center? or are you just talking about Rockville Pike? Because half of that isn't even in Rockville proper. I'm not gonna lie in terms of bars all they have is Dave and Busters, Bennigans and Hooters which is on the Pike. But check out Rockville Town Center in Downtown I think they have a couple of more bars there maybe even a homegrown non-chain bar. But seriously what more are you expecting to see out of a suburb??? By the way you should check out Bethesda, Silver Spring, Arlington or Alexandria, those are places that are techinally suburbs that offer something more.
