It's longer than Frederick to Gaithersburg, or at least feels like it. I don't do this during commute times, but last Thursday I did Ashburn to Gaithersburg via Frederick. I thought it would be easier, but traffic was at a standstill in Leesburg from Rt. 7 to 15 North. It would have been quicker via 495, despite the traffic. The point is, although I do not know the normal traffic in Leesburg, I got the feeling a commute like that will suck bad.

I've done the drive a few times and always go 15 rather than 270. It's way prettier and less congested. But that was on a Sunday to watch the Redskins game at a friends, I forgot alll about the traffic that comes out of Leesburg on work days.

The worst part will be the last stretch on Rt. 7. I make the drive a good bit and would estimate it to be 30/35 minutes without traffic. Don't know about with traffic, but the times I have passed through during rush hour, once I hit Rt. 15 things improved, for the most part.

During the school year you will want to find out what the times that the school buses run in your direction on 15. It is one thing to be stopped for a couple minutes when you get stopped for a bus in the other direction but when you follow one and have to stop for every pickup it can be painful

Be alert of any inclement weather if you commute through 15. Once it hits, you'll have no other way of getting off and you'll be sitting in traffic.

I wouldn't worry too much about school busses on Rt. 15, there are very few houses.

In Maryland there aren't but in VA there are. Even getting stuck behind a bus for 10 stops can be a big annoyance
