Somewhere like Easton md. In the Midwest?? (Chestertown, Chester: schools, taxes)

Hi,I was wondering if anyone who is familiar with my hometown of Easton md knows of a place not on the east coast that has same characteristics as Easton -less than 30k ppl. Historic downtown,live music,shopping options,some water BETTER schools? Less taxes! I have been searching for a long time and have found a few that come close..just wondering if a real traveler on here might have some ideas. Oh and I just returned from Kentucky and will say that the town of Danville is beautiful and very much like Chestertown but not as much water around,but what a great downtown!! Thanks

Interesting question. I have been pretty much everywhere and I can tell you that there are dozens of towns like Easton in the Midwest. It has a very midwestern feel to it. It's flat, in an agricultural area, a good hour or so from a major city, very conservative and family oriented, community spirit etc. You wouldn't know you were an hour from the Atlantic there.

Does it have to be a stand alone city? There are a lot of suburbs of major cities that are pretty nice that have historic and vibrant downtowns etc.

If you don't really have to or want to live in a bigger city, check out NW Arkansas around Bentonville, it's such an underrated area, but might be more populated than you want.
