Unhappy Moving from Las Vegas to Maryland, where?

OK, so here's the deal, I've been in Las Vegas for about 2 years now, I like it, but it's not hte biggest thing in the world , there's a lot of better places, so here I go, trying somewhere else. I have a job almost set up for me in Blandensburg, MD and I have a really close friend (girl) in Laurel / Maryland City, I'll be moving in the next two weeks to MD. Now, here's the thing...here in Vegas, houses and townhomes are really nice, you know, new construction. nice neighborhoods, clean streets, no crime, etc...I'm looking for something similar in MD, I really don't care that much about the driving thing, I rather be living in a nice (no ghetto) area 30 or 40 mins away from home, than be close to work but to live in a high crime area. I drive a convertible, and here in Vegas I can leave my car with the top down almost anywhere without worries, of course there are some areas that you can't do that, but the area I am right now, I can....so I'm looking for something similar in MD. I am more into the new development, new area, clean, nice looking neighborhoods, I don't like the old-fashioned houses, or country type homes.. My friend works at the Arundel Mills Mall, don't know if the area is good or not, don't want to ask her 'cause it will be a surprise for her, but I really want some help from somebody here.....I'm 31, but feeling like 25, so, not into the "over 50" lifestyle (if you know what I mean)... Any help really appreciated...Thanks...

I'd stay clear of Bladensburg, I grew up right near there in Landover Hills off of Rt 450 and you take your life in your own hands anywhere off that road anymore. I couldn't wait to get out of that area finally got my parents out there a few years ago. Lets face it, if you have to go through metal dectectors to go the the grocery store that should tell you something. That is what took me to AA county (Odenton) and I commuted back to College Park for work then finally made it out to Pasadena, I've been here for over 13 years. It's a nice area but getting ready to head to WV.
