Does anyone know anything about Elkton Maryland? I'm considering a move there but don't know much about the area or town. Is it quaint? Clean?

Hello – I see you are a new user, so perhaps you don’t know about the search function. There have been numerous past comments about Elkton, and some of them mention crime, drugs and the KKK:

West Creek Village Apartments, okay neighborhood?

Elkton is like many other mid to small cities in the region. There are good areas and bad. I'm not sure I would call it quaint but the downtown area has gone thru a revitalization in the last 20 years or so.

It has a reputation as being a quick place to get married which goes back to the days when states to the north had much longer waiting periods. It is on the state line with Delaware and very near Pennsylvania. Maryland has much lower alchol and cigarette taxes than those states which means there are large 'discount liquor' stores right at the state line. This has the reverse advantage that you can shop sales tax free in nearby Delaware (especially for high ticket items like appliances, computers, TVs etc.)

Disclosure - My in-laws are from Elkton so in the past we did spend some time up there but the older family members have passed on and some younger ones have moved away. But I never found it that different from many other medium size cities such as Westminster, Frederick, etc

I'm there quite a bit visiting. Elkton wouldn't be my choice for a family because the schools in the area are not good at all. It's not a highly educated area and there is quite a bit of crime. But if you're young and just need an apartment for a couple of years, there are some places that are ok. There are a lot of UD college students who live in Elkton apartments and the people I know who live in Elkton tend to hang out on Main St. in Newark.
