Posting salary figures that represent wealthy citizens will not change PG county one iota. It seems as if this is aimed at a racial issue - if one looks at it intelligently, it isn't. The county is majority black, therefore the black population has the upper hand, especially if the majority of them are wealthy as is always pointed out. Are the wealthy only such when inside the safety of their own homes? They seemingly drive past ruination in $70K cars with a blind eye and then lavish at home in front of big screen tvs with surround sound systems.
I don't know - someone tell me.

I have found people with cash tend to be a bit more responsible than those that don't. It makes life easy knowing that your neighbors want to pay $500K+ to live in your neighborhood regardless of race.

I want to know what happened to the PG county of just 20 years ago. I don't mean black versus white, I am talking about commerce - where we spend our dollars for goods and services and lack of customer service.
This is always blown off as a racial issue. Those that continue to see it as such are part of the problem rather than the solution.
Think people and not color.

Hey Fish,

I think you answered you own question and my bigger point.

"They seemingly drive past ruination in $70K cars with a blind eye and then lavish at home in front of big screen tvs with surround sound systems."

The people that live on the outside of the beltway care little to nothing about the people on the inside of the beltway (i would assume), because they are living in two completely different worlds and lifestyles, so while its sad to see it happen its the way it is regardless of PGC. I'm sure those people in Baltimore County that are making 200k plus don't give a rats patute about the people that are struggling to get by in their own county either.

I'm not saying it is right, but again PGC, because of the wealth disparity in rich and poor is really two uniquely different counties in one and I think a lot of people fail to realize that. Honestly I know people in Upper Marlboro and Woodmore, that live in some of the bigger homes, that have never traveled to Landover Hills or some of the inner city inside of the beltway areas. They really have no idea how the "otherside" lives nor have any care to find out. Its not right, but again they're two distinctly different worlds.

As far as a "race" issue, i think the only reason people find it more deplorabe than usual is because instead of affluent whites turning their noses up to "black poverty" you have affluent blacks, that do the samething. I think its less of a "race" issue and more of a class and economic issue. Hence why i posted a lot of this information about all of the areas. I'm sure if you talked to the affluent black population they have probably had it with the inner beltway population, because they see them as ignorant, lazy, dangerous, and they seem to depicte the worst stereotypes of blacks.

I wonder do affluent Whites worry about lower income whites any more or less than affluent Blacks worry about lower income Blacks?

RFMD Exactly Right! In fact to be bluntly honest, they're 10x more uncaring than their affluent blacks counter parts are to their poor. Worse off they'd rather hold up poor blacks as the only symbol of poverty rather than take care of or even acknowlege their poor's existence. Its a class issue not race issue. The upper class of each race tends to disdain its lower classes. No different than the lower classes of each race holding their upper classes in contempt for their failures. It's a vicious cycle that does not help either group in the end.

Tuborg here's a direct and statistically accurate answer to your question.

Let's take a look at the Families Below Poverty Level in Three Largest Counties based on Race

Baltimore County

Families below poverty 9,058
Individuals below povery 47,603

White (alone non-hispanic)
Families below poverty 4,953 54% of counties total poor
Individuals below povery 28,774 60% of counties total poor

Black (alone non-hispanic)
Families below poverty 3,268 36% of counties total poor
Individuals below povery 14,422 30% of counties total poor

Montgomery County

Families below poverty 8,428
Individuals below povery 47,024

White (alone non-hispanic)
Families below poverty 3,183 37% of counties total poor
Individuals below povery 20,772 44% of counties total poor

Black (alone non-hispanic)
Families below poverty 2,509 29% of counties total poor
Individuals below povery 12,159 25% of counties total poor

Prince George's County

Families below poverty 10,641
Individuals below povery 60,196

White (alone non-hispanic)
Families below poverty 1,548 14% of counties total poor
Individuals below povery 12,877 21% of counties total poor

Black (alone non-hispanic)
Families below poverty 7,591 71% of counties total poor
Individuals below povery 38,097 63% of counties total poor

Fish, why does it bother you that blacks do not care about their poor? I've clearly illustrated, that whites clearly do not care about their poor either. It is a class issue. Is a white woman from Potomac going to go out of her way to be friend a poor white woman from one of the rural areas in Moco? Then why would you expect a black woman from Woodmore to go out and be friend or care about a poor inner beltway black? What besides race do any of these people have in common with their lowers or vice versa?

When was the last time you heard someone mention the white poor in either Montgomery or Baltimore Counties? They make up the majority of poor people in each of their counties , but you're not out chastizing anyone that doesn't display the white poor, so what's your deal with chastizing me in the other forum for not displaying the black poor in PG? Personally, I think they get enough news time don't you?

I think you have more hate in your heart then you're willing to admit, so while i think a lot of your concern is genuine you do have a bit of racial bais wrapped within that concern and its pretty obvious. I deal in fact nothing more nothing less.

Haha Yea, i guess i'm just amazed how angry some got in reaction to posting actual facts. I did not twist any numbers i presented them as how they appear. It so interesting to review others reactions when faced with facts. Hell, I had no idea Maryland was this wealthy nor for that matter Prince Georges County. I was a total basher, but after doing the research i've realized it is economically completely two different counties in one. I guess i stereotyped the whole incorrectly. Hell, i had no idea Baltimore County had so many families with 200k incomes. Will be interesting to see what happens over the next 10 years in this state.

I don't think it will take ten years to see a dramatic differerence. There are to many dynamics at play. The infrastructure has serious issues and we are taxed to the limit and still have a possibly strong down turn ahead of us. We are to polarized both economically and socially and the various threads reflect that. You can only tax those of means so much to support those without before you begin to lose your wealth base. We already know that folks are electing to work in Maryland and live in a neighboring state. The debt crisis will hit this state hard and if we see the steep devaluaton of home equity as predicted you will see a lot of folks upside down in their mortgages. When you have people using credit cards to pay their rent and mortgages what will they do next? Just read the newspaper and where is the upside? Thats why I question how wealthy a state is when they have a 1.6 billion deficit? The winds of change are a blowing and if the market does recover will people pack and run?

Truthhurts: I appreciate you doing your research so people can see the truth about pg county instead of peopleposting these stupid false statements about the county. remember a few poster mention Pg county is one of the poorest county in Maryland, boy was I laughing at that one. Only if that person k ew Pg county is the second county with the highest income, highest numbers of Affulent families and wealth. You but the truth out their for all to see. People who live in Pg county especially in the most desiarble cities already knew the truth which is the reason why more and more Affulent families move to the county. I do believe that with your researching you might move to Pg county in the near future because now you see pass the lies and see the truth I do believe you will move here soon. Hope to see you in the neighborhood.

Haha thanks for the wishful thinking Iscalder, but PG nor Maryland supports my sort of work. Until Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch, or the rest of the Investment Banking community decides to relocate to Maryland I most certainly would not. As i've said before I'm not a fan of the state nor PG regardless, so i'd most likely live in the state i'm originally from VA. Assuming i'd ever want to move back to the DC-Metro, which again i'd highly doubt!
