Default College Park Hotels Baltimore Avenue Route 1 is this a safe area to stay in for family with children to visit DC?

Please advise on the area of Baltimore Avenue Route 1 for hotels. I noticed a Comfort inn that was reasonable and the greenbelt metro was close to drive or get a shuttle. Is this a high crime area? Where else would you reccommned for a hotel not in downtown DC, but surrounding areas close to a metro station. Thanks for your time

NO its pretty safe.... there's a lot of traffic along Route 1 though since Univ of MD is down the street and it beign a main thorofare in and out of DC during rush hour. As far as other hotels... like the above poster said... Greenbelt has a few along Rte 193 (University Blvd and Greenbelt Rd)

That should be fine, and there are a few restaurants nearby as well.

Just a thought but I would check the University of MD schedule of events, website is The University of Maryland.

You did not mention when you're visiting but you could be surrounded by lots of college kids who have been drinking. Especially during basketball season!

There is a Marriott Courtyard in Greenbelt, very close to the metro and you can also try the downtown Silver Spring area for quick access to the metro.
