kjg- yeah that's true. but people i think seem to judge md based on where they live. ie if u live in rockville who cares about the eastern shore. and perhaps rightly so. no jobs there so couldn't live there anyway. some people don't like the col etc. terrapin will be in balt for school for i don't know 2, 4 yrs? hopefully he can make the best of it and make a break afterwards or maybe even stay in MD. of course the weather won't change lol. also did not mention the mt washington neighborhood in baltimore city (affluent and on the border) if i'm not mistaken falls rd runs through it or is at least nearby. that's one of the scenic byways to take to balt co.

Here's one for you, being a native Merlander. An old friend of mine, who is also a native Merlander, has some property down on the lower part of Potomac River, down near Port Tobacco, he owns about 12 acres right on the river and whenever possible I get down there for a weekend, we usually spend a day out on the river fishing and just going up and down the river checking out certain places, in the evening we'll sit out on the pier, have a couple beers and watch the eagles flying out over the river catching fish, there is nothing more beautiful than watching eagles flying out over the river and sitting back with a couple of beers and watching the sun go down, now that's beautiful.

I have been to the bay several times and one time I happened upon this.
Chesapeake Beach Railway - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There is a station by the Rod and Reel Club in Chesapeake Beach that I never paid attention to and what a history it held.

I always wondered where that carousel came from up to 15 years ago when I learned about the RR. Cool story about your grandparents meeting on that line. We are not afforded luxuries such as that these days as we are all in our individual cars rushing to get nowhere.
Drinking at a bar is a sad way to meet one's soul mate.
It turns out that is where most meet the mother/father of one's children and too many become broken homes.

-focus on education
-good schools, great colleges
-lots of jobs
-politically active
-mountains, beach, city all 1-3 hours away
-close to other cities, NY, Philly
-concerts
-crabs
-great restaurants
-warm summers, cold winters
-competent workers (a little unfriendly, but people here do their job)
-free museums, zoo in DC
-great place to raise kids
-little racism, lots of interracial couples
-Camden Yards people!
-Little Italy in Baltimore (Vaccaro's...mmm....)
-medically sophisticated
I love Maryland! Yeah, we have some problems but all in all a great place to live.
