Rocky Gap is nice for camping (although it has been 25 years since I was there ). Also some nice places out by Deep Creek Lake/Swallow Falls in Garrett county...

Actually, one great experience I had recently was the Patuxent river area, which is a bird watcher's paradise. The park is Jug's Bay, off of 301.

They have boat tours, and canoeing is allowed. Check it out if you have a chance.

This is truily great. LOL I knew I'd catch some heat on the camping thing. That's okay I'm just not an over night in the woods person. Day trips are good enough for me. I love Maryland and that's one of the great things about living here there's something for everyone.

I ment rural. Kitzmiller is in Garrett County and Terra Alta is in West Virgina. They are both on the outskirts of Oakland..but if you don't know where Oakland is lets put it where everyone knows Deep Creek, which is McHenry. Most people don't even know anything exists past the lake

The one thing I love about MD is even though you might be living in a "small town" there is always lots of fun stuff if you're willing to drive about a 1/2 hour. I bet there are some places in this country that you can't say that about!

I like this part of the country. We have true seasons, the mountains are not far away and neither is the beach. There is water everywhere for fishing, boating or skiing. The trees are mixed between oaks and maples as we are still far south enough for the oaks. We don't have many poisonous snakes but we have tons of other wildlife.
That is off the top of my head.

Maryland is a beautiful state once you get out of the DC/Baltimore corridor.. mnts.. bay .. ocean... open farmland.. colors in the fall... sound of geese.. waterman coming in from work.. history.. sailing.. small towns ... festivals.. celebrations of life all around...
love it here... just sad to see what it is being turned into..
