I love MD too - didn't realize how much until I moved back from MN. I am amazed, and forgot how wonderful spring and fall are here, winters are just right-cold enough to need coats and hats, a few snow days for the kids and summer-hot, great for the beach and pools. MNs believe they have the best of all the seasons...I disagree!

I'm always commenting how MD has everything. I'm so glad I had it to come back to-just wish my kids would try life here, but they won't leave MN (because they like having 4 seasons)

I really like the forum but I noticed a few things. I see alot of people have complaints but not alot of good stuff. At the same time I see alot of posts with people looking for something, anything good about Maryland. So I thought let's create one. I'll start, oh if you have nothing nice to say well as my grandmother used to tell me then don't say anything.
  • Main Street Ellicott City never no what you'll find
  • Towson Town Center
  • Capital International Speedway
  • Great Schools all over Maryland
  • Fells Point before I was married and had kids
  • Camping in Cumberland also learned I didn't like camping but it was beautiful
Okay really I could go on for an hour but surily everyone can find something good and nice to say. I can't wait to read what all of you post.
- Deep Creek Lake, Wisp ski resort and the beautiful scenery all over Western Maryland, Swallow Falls, scenic Route 40, etc ; the town of Oakland is perfect

- Waffle House in Frederick ; Phllips Seafood in Baltimore ; Houston's restaurant in Rockville

- miles of shoreline around the Chesapeake Bay ; Ocean City ; Assateague Island ; closeness of both the ocean/bay and the mountains

- pleasant, picture perfect small towns on the Eastern Shore and southern Maryland and parts of western Maryland

- the Univeristy of Maryland (GO TERPS)

- the National Aquarium and Fort McHenry in Baltimore

- historic downtown Annapolis, the State House, the Naval Academy

I think historic Oakland is a wonderful town, last time at the lake me and my family explored the surrounding area. Swallow Falls was also very beautiful and fun to swim under. I think Maryland's beauty and treasures are found in its rural areas away from the cities and suburbs. I guess this is true for anywhere. Places like DC and Baltimore make me want to move to the South or West but places like Carroll County, Frederick, and the Eastern Shore hold me back.

I honestly don't see Frederick as being anything nice or quaint. People on here rave about the historic part, but it's really dirty honestly. Carroll County like Taneytown is ok, but not Mount Airy. When I was little Mount Airy was considered a hick part and people didn't know where it even was. I like Mount Airy when I was young, but I hate driving there now.

I'm thrilled to see so many people who love Maryland. At least I know I'm not alone. I was in a Annapolis this past week. It is truily breath taking. I look forward to reading more posts and maybe learning about about some places I didn't know about.

LOL I beg to differ. Dirty? ha not a word that typically describes downtown, which happens to be very charming and quaint imho. What's dirty about Frederick?

My son at 15 moved to Mount Airy to live with his father to finish school (long story, live in PG). He grew up in Beltsville and Laurel. He had a definite culture shock going to Carroll County. Even though it is getting more developed, we used to tease him about skipping school and going cow tipping. Its still another world up there compared to this area.

That is very true. It's a culture shock to me when I have seen what Mount Airy has become since I grew up there when it was a "country" area.

Um, what part of downtown are you talking about?? have you traveled past Carroll Creek or the beginning of East Street?? Why don't you head down West All Saints Street, 5th Street, 7th Street and so forth.....then you can tell me it's not dirty. Sure it was quaint and nice back when the houses were originally built, but not anymore. Just because these investors came in and did what they did with their best Home Depot supplies inside, it doesn't make the neighborhood anymore quaint. I would never imagined in a million years anyone would buy a million dollar condo where once Dr Tint sat. South and Market is nothing to be proud of to call your own.

yes i have because i lived there! maybe some parts are a bit dirty but i mean to the typical tourist, they don't usually go that way. and so You're going to say that all of Downtown Frederick is dirty because of a few areas?
