Wonderful Maryland
Hello everyone,
I really like the forum but I noticed a few things. I see alot of people have complaints but not alot of good stuff. At the same time I see alot of posts with people looking for something, anything good about Maryland. So I thought let's create one. I'll start, oh if you have nothing nice to say well as my grandmother used to tell me then don't say anything.
- Main Street Ellicott City never no what you'll find
- Towson Town Center
- Capital International Speedway
- Great Schools all over Maryland
- Fells Point before I was married and had kids
- Camping in Cumberland also learned I didn't like camping but it was beautiful
Okay really I could go on for an hour but surily everyone can find something good and nice to say. I can't wait to read what all of you post.

Yes I can. Kitzmiller, Maryland. or you can venture to Terra Alta, WV. They are quiet and nice but certainly not rural.

I live and work in Carroll County. I moved down here from Pa. in '85. I love the area. There are many small towns, very little "real" crime or violence. IMO, the ones that hate Md. are the ones chasing the dream in the richer counties, which of course come with pricier problems. I would NOT want to live in Baltimore city, anywhere near DC, or the Annapolis area. Nothing against those areas, but they're not what I want out of life. I have been in DC, in burbs of Baltimore, etc., and can see why some folks like it. But, it's not for me. And I think unhappiness comes in large part by wanting what everyone else has, instead of enjoying what you got.

The eastern shore and the mountains. Vacationing or day trips to two totally different types of terrain all within 1-3 hours drive time.

- Carroll County
- All of the wonderful parks and lakes in the area
- Cunningham Falls
- Deep Creek Lake
- easy commute to DC for all of its cultural attractions (take the MARC train)
- great neighborhoods and communities
- you can find whatever you are looking for (urban, vibrant city life, or friendly suburban neighborhoods, or relaxing rural areas)

Exactly - I live on the Eastern Shore and the beauty of the Chesapeake Bay is still breathtaking.

My "#1 pleasant suprise" vote after living in Maryland for years goes to Patapsco State Park -- I grew up camping in Michigan but hadn't gone in years -- until last summer.
All I can say is WOW! To be litterally 25 minutes from downtown and go down those winding roads into the campgrounds -- you would think you were in the middle of a grand forest.
What is it about camping that attracts the NICEST FREINDLIEST people?!! Must be something about nature, the fresh air and campfires? If you're tired of the fast pace of city/suburban life, get away from it all for a weekend.
If you've never been, try it out -- its an incredible (CHEAP) weekend vacation for anyone!
(PS, haven't been to the other State parks, but I hear they're great as well, will have to check out more next summer!)

Scudder,
We are going tent camping at Cunningham Falls State Park this summer and are also considering Rocky Gap State Park in Western Maryland. Both of the campgrounds got good reviews. It's good to meet a fellow camper.

Maryland is a great place to live...I don't know why people have so much complaints...
Carroll County - especially Westminster - developing, some rural areas, but some very suburbish. People are great and friendly...at least they wave =)
I'm used to sales associates not really being helpful, but when I walked into a chain store in Westminster, on a number of occasions, the associates were more than helpful. I can't remember the last time I received such "customer service."
I love Baughers...some friends and my husband and I had gone to pick cherries... something so simple turned out to be really fun.
Anne Arundel county - Odenton
I really like the suburb feeling. I'm not too far from shopping, close to Arundel Mills. Real estate is still doing comparatively well.
Over all, in MD, you aren't far from the mountains, the ocean, NY, Myrtle Beach, 8 - 10 hrs to FL. Great chesapeake blue crabs.... a decent enough sports team. =P
I agree with the person who started this post...there's alot of great things here...
