Default Relocating to Hagerstown, MD

My husband and I, with our four kids, currently live in Montgomery Village, MD. We are thinking about relocating to Hagerstown, MD because houses are cheaper there. But that's about all we know about the area. Crime? Schools? population (predominantly White, Black, etc?). The only data we found was for 2000.

Can some one please help here. Is Hagerstown a good place to raise a family? We would like to read the possitive and negative.

Default Living In Hagerstown, Maryland

I reside in Martinsburg, WV (15 minutes outside Hagerstown. It is okay to live there. I moved form PG county and it is definatley a better place to raise kids than in the city. Racially, it is very mixed. You will see a little bit of everything there.
As long as your kids can get along with all races, it isn;t a problem at all. The location is good since it is close to most everything, schools are fine too, nothing to great, but not terrible either. Just a regular old medium size town, minus the faced past living of the city. Hope that helps.

Default Thanks Lizziep

Lizziep, thanks for your response. We were looking for just that kind of community. The commute will most likely be the main issue to consider. But we are still looking.
