Want to know more about each "possibly bad" community in southern Harford County?

Here's a site that shows the demographics, income, and rental units in EACH NEIGHBORHOOD; That's right; you can check out each PART of town's income and racial makeup!

HDG:
Havre de Grace, MD Apartments & Houses Rent Comparison, Neighborhood Rent Maps
Edgewood:
Edgewood, MD Apartments & Houses Rent Comparison, Neighborhood Rent Maps
Aberdeen:
Aberdeen, MD Apartments & Houses Rent Comparison, Neighborhood Rent Maps
Joppatowne:
Joppatowne, MD Apartments & Houses Rent Comparison, Neighborhood Rent Maps

The poorest areas are southeast of Route 40 in Aberdeen and Havre de Grace, with median incomes of around $30,000. The wealthiest are in Joppatowne and northwest Havre de Grace, with median incomes of around $60,000. Edgewood is a bit inbetween; around $41,000 for the poor parts and $55,000 for the wealthier parts.

Edgewood and Aberdeen, however, are most definitely becoming worse; Havre De Grace used to bad before they built the suburbs, but is now headed uphill, so your best bet would be there or Joppatowne now. But all those schools are definitely somewhat rough. The safest school would be Bel Air, but be warned, it is full of druggies,Moderater cut: Please watch your language. Thanks.corny white rich suburban posers, and stuck-up snobs.

Default Relo to Bel Air

My husband, 3 boys and I might be relocating to Bel Air. Does anyone have any tips? I've heard mixed messages about the place. Thanks!

Okay. Most of the people who post to these threads and have horrible things to say have never lived near Joppatowne or Edgewood. There are parts of e-wood that are bad, that I would not recommend, but there are nice parts also. As far as Joppatowne goes, the only reason it gets a bad rap at all is because parts of E-wood feed into Joppatownes schools. The parts of E-wood that are bad are rental communities which accept Section 8, nuff said. I have lived in Joppatowne for 5 years, moved there immediately after graduating from Fallston High. That's right, moved from Bel Air to Joppa because Bel Air is nothing but endless strip malls whose traffic at rush hour and Saturday mornings could compare to that of 95 at rush hour. Way too crowded. Oh yea, as a graduate of Fallston, let me tell ya, if you think that there isn't a drug problem in Fallston/Bel Air/C. Milton Wright schools, you are mistaken. Most of the drug traffic that comes to E-wood to buy their drugs come from these areas.

Joppatowne is a water oriented community with great parks. As a young female, never once have I been scared to walk through my neighborhood in the early morning hours or in the dark. Everyone speaks so highly of Abingdon, which is nice with many conveniences, but most of Abingdon feeds into the Edgewood schools. I get really tired of hearing people bash Joppatowne when most people have never had to step foot anywhere near here unless they are coming to shop at C-Mart. Joppatowne has a great location, right on 95, 5 minutes to White Marsh (whose restaurants and shopping beat Bel Air any day), right on the water, moderately priced housing and friendly neighbors. All I have to say is that before those who are moving to MD write off Joppatowne, come take a look for yourself. I am college educated, my boyfriend and I both make good money and we choose to stay in Joppatowne because we love it, not because we can't afford to move somewhere else.

We live in ABingdon and its a great location. We are close to everything, shopping, 95, restaurants and all the major cities around within a couple of hours. Unfortunately we have to move, but if it wasn't for our job relo, we'd stay put. Its friendly and a great, safe neighborhood.

I am surprised no one has mentioned Northern harford county...you guys are only talking about half of the county here. You're neglecting to mention Jarrettsville, Monkton, Pylesville, Street, and Whiteford. Fallston hasn't even been mentioned that much.

Xckyle93 that is probably because going to Aberdeen the closest parts of Harford County are the ones up and down Rt40 for the fastest commute, you are right though the other half is great, too, if not better, but all country roads to get to APG.

Post moving to APG in the coming weeks.....

I have read many posts on here and i am left very confused. From reading i believe i have narrowed my choices down to. Bel-Air, Abingdon and Havre de Grace. I am interested in knowing which has the better school system since i have a 6yr old. Town homes with cul de sacs that are for rent? Convenice to shopping? Don't want to drive 20mins just to get to an grocery store. I want access to shopping but want the convenience of living in a quiet neighborhood that is kid friendly. Easy commute to APG no more than 20mins. If any one can help me out i would greatly appreciate it.
