Okay so right now I have fios and I am being overcharged. I am paying $95 a month for 50/50 connection. I don't really care bout the upload speed. I only have internet service with them so do you think comcast would be a better route? I mean on comcast website it said I can get a 75 Mbps for only $67 after the promotional period of only $45. My question is which isp should I go with? Does comcast have a data cap where if you go over a certain limit they make you pay more of terminate your service.

Probably depends on your area. I have fios, but my neighbor has Comcast and says that the speed sucks.

What is most important to you, speed or cost? Do you not have TV, just internet?

The one thing I have learned is buying cable service is like buying luggage in a 3rd world country, it's always negotiable. If you have both available use that to your advantage. Call Comcast and tell them you are thinking about switching, you'll get an awesome rate. When that rate is up and assuming you are happy with them call them and say you are considering moving back to Fios, they are offering $XX.00 a month. Comcast will no doubt match it.

I have Comcast and have never been charged for going over my data cap, doubt one even exists. That's more a cell phone thing I believe.

Yes, you are being overcharged. BTW, you are lucky to have competition - I don't anymore. As DaveMtAiry said, you should bargain back and fourth between Comcast and Verizon. I did this while in Howard County and always got a better deal. Be willing to switch providers - take the $300 new customer offers that they provide. I assume you know this but don't use your @Verizon email account. When you switch, Verizon will lock you out. I suggest gmail, yahoo, etc. so you never need to worry about it.

When my deal with Comcast expired and the rates went back to their ridiculous normal levels I called Comcast and did as I suggested. The funny part was FIOS is not even available in my area. But the Comcast rep on the 800 line didn't know that.

Funny, I did the the same thing. I was wondering if they were going to cross reference my location with the FIOS coverage area. I do have a system worked out where I send myself a reminder 11 months out from the date I last called...don't wait for the high bill to come in. I also have worked out a nice method to deal with the retention specialist - calls last less than 5 mins.

The folks answering the 800 number are useless, they constantly give me bad info. Pretty safe bet they are not equipped to confirm or deny the availability of FIOS in my area.
