mandyh is on a distinguished road
Oakland is a nice quiet place. Mostly farms with Deep Creek Lake to the north as a tourist area. Grantsville and Frostburg areas are also great places to live. Keep in mind these are very laid back farming communities. There isnt much in the way of jobs and if you like to shop, plan on driving to Johnstown PA or Hagerstown MD.(45min to 1hr drive) The benifit to living there is you can enjoy a peaceful home enviroment. The schools are small and everyone knows everyone meaning there is a lot more individual attention towards to students. If you like to water or snow ski, hike, white water rafting and kayaking then this area will be an even bigger hit. The nice thing is you can be in wilderness and still be within two hr drive to D.C., Baltimore and Pittsburgh. I am from there so if you have any Questions please feel free to PM me.

HAHAHAHA. I found this thread by accident. I live n Oakland, California. Obviously a very different type of place than the one you're thinking of. My first response was, "Are You Insane?"

You don't think of relocating to Oakland, CA. You get transferred here and then spend the next 15 years planning your escape strategy. LOL!
