Western Maryland is not Southern. It has more in common with Pennsylvania than West Virginia and Virginia.

I disagree that Central Maryland isn't Northern. It's got more in common with Pennsylvania than Virginia outside of NOVA.

I didnt say that it it was more like virginia than pennsylvania. I agree with what you say in an overview, but I think central maryland is still very transient. I personally think maryland has more in common with new jersey as a better comparison, since pennsylvania is almost fully mountain land, while new jersey has more flat land.

I can see West Virginia from my back window. Cross from Southern Cumberland to Ridgeley or Wiley Ford, and the odds you notice anything different in dialect, demographics, or culture are about zero.

Western Maryland, especially Cumberland, experienced a large wave of Italian immigrants, like the industrial cities of northern WV and western PA. Muck like Clarksburg and Fairmont in WV, we eat pepperoni rolls as a local food made by local Italians who have been here since the early 20th century.

Its best to think of SW PA, Western Maryland, and WV north of about US 50 as the same region. I would throw in parts of SE Ohio too.

Yeah, I think this is a good estimate.

Ah, you've returned..
Explain, please.

Here is a suburb of Baltimore (Glen Burnie).

Do you see the forest? There aren't forests like that in the Northeast.

I guess I agree with that assessment.

Just saying, southern new jersey has those. There is a famous youtuber who lives in south jersey, you can see tallpines. But tallpines arent everywhere in north MD. They arent THAT common.

Also, while there are southern features in MD plants wise, there are also some northern only plants in MD. I did not fully think MD was northern dialect wise, but I think it has some actual northern features plant and climate wise. There is a tree called an alaskan cedar, ill show you a picture of it. It is a northern only tree from what I have seen, northern VA is the most south I have seen it. Again, ill show a pic. I have a ton of these in my neighborhood, I live in bowie.

That Mason-Dixon line is very outdated and inconsequential in my opinion.
