I'm new to Grantsville myself. I have 2 younger children in schools - one 5th grade who attends the Elementary and the other in Pre-K who attends school on Route 40. I don't know much about the middle or high schools, but I am impressed with the elementary programs in Garrett county.

My children went to RT. 40 Elementary school. The teachers and principal are great, we really like that school. Will probalbly be returning to it next month.

Grantsville feeds into Northern High, which based what I hear (sorry I have not checked the MSA scores) is the best high school in Western Maryland. Everyone that I know that went there had very positive things to say about it. Also, keep in mind that Grantsville doesn't just have "a small town feel", it is a small town. There is a big difference. There are a lot of places in the DC metroplex that have "a small town feel" but ceased being real small towns a long time ago. Grantsville is far outside the metro area and is still a real small town.

The schools in Garrett County are excellent, especially for being public schools. The teachers are great and really care about their students. They apply for grants all the time so money is not as much of an issue at the schools. I never had to leave books at school becuase there were not enough, and relative to where i live now and my friends' school experiences, it was like i went to a private school. It is a rural area, but if you want your business to remain your business, it is possible, but a little more difficult. Culture is there, but sometimes harder to find, be sure to travel with your children to expose them to other areas (pittsburgh, baltimore, etc.) or they may not know how to handle those situations. LOL. anyhow, in the end, it is a great place to raise a family.
