My husband and I will be visiting Easton in March. It's on our list for possible retirement area.
We'd like to see St. Michaels and Oxford while there. Is Tilghman Island worth seeing? Would we be close enough to do a daytrip to Annapolis one day and Chincoteague another? Last year we took a trip to the NC coast for the first time (Bald Head Island) and found it stunning. Is there comparable coast on the MD shores? Any help with restaurants, etc., would be appreciated. |

A day trip to Annapolis is doable. Chincoteague is probably a 3-hour ride from Easton. We were down there last weekend. We had relatives here that had never (GASP!) been to the ocean. We only went that far south because they were staying with family in Crisfield. A snow squall sprung up on the way there. It was really coming down when we got to the beach. I don't think I've ever been so cold in my life. It was really gray and the waves were huge. There was at least 2 inches of snow on the sand. It was really beautiful in a gloomy sort of way. Even with the bad weather, there were a variety of birds everywhere. Funny thing is, there were tons of people there also.
We have also done the St. Michaels, Oxford, Tilghman thing. We did it in one day. Very quaint areas. We also looked for any ferry crossings and took advantage of those. Of course, this was in the summer. I'm sure these areas are a little less active during the winter. Tilghman doesn't have a lot and its not very big. But it is a study in the waterman's way of life. St. Michaels is probably the most touristy with lots of shops. Of course all the eastern shore towns have their charm and, if you appreciate the water, they are all beautiful.
