I'm afraid to ask what you consider fun then if Maryland is so boring to you because you can pretty much do anything in Maryland. MD has EVERYTHING with the exception of the overrated and mostly ugly desert. I am getting ready to leave Arizona and move back to you guessed it Maryland. I only came out here because my wife is originally from AZ and I was curious about living in another state and now my curiosity stage is over and I was better off in MD so we're leaving I know what the thread is called and it seems to me that most of the people on here that are complaining are some of the most far-right winged people who rather go somewhere like Kansas, Montana or some hick upstart city in the south but they still haven't done so.

Notice how everyone on this board who is fed up with Maryland came from either southern Maryland, Eastern Shore or once rural areas like(HoCo,Frederick) and one oddity from Potomac(still don't understand that one but i'll give em a pass). These are/were the "country folk" of Maryland and hate the fact that everything is becoming urbanized. They hate cities and hate urban culture but I have a question when you guys say that Maryland is lacking or losing it's culture what kind of culture are you "country folk" talking about?? I thought country people didn't even care about culture that much???

Nah, it's just more like basic, sincere truth isn't one of your strong suits. If telling the truth is stooping low, then so be it. I'm so tired of mincing words these days.
Oh, and BTW, never really had the opportunity to live in rural MD, unfortunately. I've always lived in the Balt-Wash. corridor. Your poke at "country folks" is off the mark in this case.

Again you never explained to me what you think "culture" is you were the one that brought it up. I said that DC and Maryland is a magnet for people coming from different backgrounds(young professionals, people from different regions and countries and politics) who come here to live a way of life. It's a different vibe here than a typical major city. If you're not a transient person than DC has it's homegrown culture which is mostly African American(sounds like you have a problem with black culture) Maryland also has the same kind of homegrown culture but has plenty more to along with that it just varies by region. If you think this place has no culture then name me some states that outdo Maryland???? Have you ever been outside of Mid Atlantic before???
Again if you read my post about the "country folks" there were a couple of exceptions like with Terp being from Montgomery County. Doesn't mean anything you just happen to be one of those exceptions also. You probably have a "country folks" state of mind just like Terp does

It's true that a large chunk of all the complaints people have come up with so far boil down to disliking the increasing urbanization, thickening traffic, and prevalence of city-folk (fast-paced, workaholic, etc.) and immigrants (cities are more diverse than the countryside). It could be that the DC area is fine for city people, and not so good for country people.

Yes I hate the places I grew up in being all yuppified. It's sickening. And for your information, I would love to wake up to a beautiful desert sunrise instead of the sunrise above all the mcmansions that were built in this area. I am a country folk and you know what this place is so not what it used to be. Growth is fine if it's done in moderation, but when some idiot from another part of Maryland moves up this end than demands change because they don't like it, we are supposed to deal with it and just shut up. It shouldn't be this way. This state is so overpopulated its not even funny. I went to dinner last night at 7pm and I could see 70 at a certain stop light I was at and it was bumper to bumper traffic at that time of night. And I'm sure all the yuppies were heading to a ski resort to show off their new attire they bought for the occasion. Ask anyone that lives in Garrett County and see if they enjoy all the people that invade their space every weekend. They hate it w/ a passion. They are called tourons for a reason. I will be leaving here shortly and I know I won't be second guessing my decision. And as for why I consider this place boring is because i have DONE EVERYTHING THERE IS TO DO IN THIS PITIFUL STATE. There is nothing left. I do have a question, why did all these people move to Frederick and than have to sit on the 270 death trap every morning just to get to work??? To save money??? I'm sorry but I wouldn't move all the way up here than sit in traffic everyday. Look at the stress, the missed family time and so forth these individuals miss.

Yeah, I agree, commuting is crazy. I'm hoping not to have to do too much of it. I remember thinking of Frederick (back in the day) as waaaaaay out from DC. Pretty, quaint, and the middle of nowhere. I never would have thought about commuting from there to DC or Baltimore. But I guess people are now treating it like a DC suburb. That's crazy. It seems to me that the closer-in places need to be more built up so people don't have to travel as far to work in the city. I lived in less than 2,000 square feet, 16-feet wide, with a tiny little bowling alley back yard in New York and I thought it was a palace. Still do. Even with kids and dogs, I don't think I'll ever need anything more than that.

Well everyone complains of the traffic and urbanization that is in and around Balto/DC but the shore is a trip back into how close-minded and backwards things can be. Im still wondering what ppl do around here for fun(other than the beach). If this is someones slice of heaven then thats fine but the amount of boredom here will drive you crazy. Dont even get me started on the lazy work ethic that I see on a daily basis. Nothing here happens quickly, the housing market is totally upside down with the job market and crime is a problem. Remind me again how this is supposed to be so great.
