Default Apartment Hunting in Takoma Park

My friend and I are looking for a 2 bedroom apartment in the $1300 range and we're considering Takoma Park. Can anyone point me towards apartment hunting guides/resources for that area (other than Craigslist)? I figure that there must be more apartments available that what Craigslist is showing me. Also, are there other neighborhoods near that area that I should also be looking at?

I've also been searching for apartments in the DC area. After looking at the Washington Post website, I'd suggest checking out Apartments.com (which is where the Post gets their information).

As far as nearby areas to check out, I'd definitely suggest Silver Spring, which is the next station north on the Metro Red Line.

BTW, based on what I've seen, you may have fairly limited options in Takoma Park (and for that matter Silver Spring) at $1300/month.

Actually, I currently live in Alexandria and my friend and I could get a place here for about $1300 to $1400 a month, but I really don't like the area. Takoma Park and Silver Spring have more of a neighborhood feel and we are trying to avoid high-rise apartment buildings and suburban sprawl (almost impossible in the DC metro area). I have had enough of strip malls and can't afford Old Town...so a friend of mine who lived in Takoma Park a couple of years ago and loved it has recommended it to me.The $1300 is just a ballpark figure.

If anyone out there who lives in Southern MD can let me know of non-highrise units for rent, I'd appreciate it!

I live in Silver Spring in a two-bedroom that rents for $1250 and includes utilities, so I think your price range is definitely doable!

Besides Craigslist and the Post, you may have luck just driving around TP & Silver Spring in search of "for rent" signs. In SS, take a look at the area off Manchester Road (between Wayne & Piney Branch).
