PG Co School Zone
My family will be moving to MD in the next few months. We have our eye on a particular elementary school so we will try to move that school zone.
Is the school zone changing anytime soon?
Thanks

I think it might only change in a certain area if a new school is being built. My kids have been in the school system the last 12 years and we've never been rezoned for another school.

What do you think of this site?
PGCPS Boundary Change Map (broken link)
Looks as if the zone for Perrywood ES is shrinking. Where would I find out if another school is coming in the area?

Try this link:
New Schools and Building Renovations Division
It appears Perrywood is at capacity. There could be possibility of rezoning in that case. But I would think the closer to the school you are, the more likely you would attend there. I would asssume, that if they were to rezone, it would affect the areas farthest from the school.

I perused that link and I wonder how I made it through what can be compared to as an archaic education. I attended schools utilizing extension trailers for permanent classrooms at any of the 9 schools I attended before graduating from HS.
That HS is on par with/if not exceeding most community colleges. Any kid lucky enough to attend a school with those amenities had better excel in life. However; it is the quality of the educators rather than the facility that is the most important factor.
One question always comes to mind - how much of the funding comes from the state lottery gaming commission? Proceeds from all of that are to fund public schooling - so we are told.

My daughter attends school in PG and yep, trailers galore. They just put two more in the parking lot. They aren't set up with the others yet, but they will be. The population has gone up in the county but there was no new construction for years. Hopefully, they are on the right track and will continue to build new and improve old to accommodate all these students in actual buildings and not trailers.

Trailers
For anyone's own amusement, in an effort to make using trailers sound better they are now being called "learning cottages".

We had the same conversation about the VA lottery. One guy is on the school board in Gloucester county and according to him, confirming our belief, very little.
