Work in Salisbury, where to live?
We are considering a move to Salisbury for my husband's employment. We are in the position of buying a home in the $600-&700k range and after reading through this forum and looking online at schools and activities, are wondering if Easton is a viable commute to and from Salisbury. Also considering Berlin/Ocean Pines area. Good schools with a strong sports and academic program, good housing, shopping and activities are all important.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Anything east of the Cheseapeake is an easy commute to Salisbury. With the amount you are willing to spend, you could probably get either waterfront or water access property. One downfall of the shore is the summer traffic on Route 50 which connects most of the larger towns there. I have heard that Berlin is nice. My sister has a second home in Ocean Pines and I haven't heard any complaints. Can't really help you with any more specifics but good luck in your relocation!

Having lived on the Eastern Shore for a few years now and watching the real estate jump as it has, a waterfront property at the $600-$700K is a far shot these days.. maybe if you squint really hard. Sorry.
Possibly a condo or townhome but not something large enough for a family with young children.
A commute from Easton to Salisbury can easily be done, except as said above, the Summer months on route 50 can be hard.
Schools in Wicomico County ( which is where Salisbury is located) are not the best, and the schools south of there not much better. Near OC and OC Pines.
Talbot County (where Easton is located) schools are much better.
As far as Retail, Salisbury has all of the big box stores; Target,Kohl's ,Walmart,etc...
Many chain restaurants and I am sure their own local as well. I do not live in Salisbury but do drive there often to shop.
Easton has a really nice downtown area, nice boutiques and different cafes and restaurants. It has grown tremendously and expanding outside the local "flair" as a Target is due to open in the Spring and Starbucks is popping up all over there.
Easton has still been able to maintain that small town feel though, if you can stay away from rte 50!
I would pick Easton over Salisbury................

I'd assume you're financially secure, so if I were you, I'd look into private schools. My choice would be "The Salisbury School", Many students spend their entire 12 years of school there. It has an outstand academic and athletic record. Contact 410-742-4464 to get info, or they have a web-site.

I have a niece that lives in Eden, Maryland, just below Salisbury, and works in Salisbury, check it out, it's a nice quiet little community.

I live in Salisbury, you can get some really nice homes for $600-700K I would go to Delmarva Properties online Delmarva Properties Online - Delmarva Real Estate® look up in your price range. If you want to live in Salisbury, look under Wicomico. You can look up Berlin, Ocean Pines, Easton, ect there also. Good luck.

You choices are kind of endless with that much to spend. My dad bought a four bedroom for $300K. There are so many communities that you can choose from. Behind Salisbury University, the 20+ developments that have gone up, the "Labors of love" Victorian houses in the Poplar Hill neighborhood. I mean I could live anywhere in Salisbury , becuase I have lived in so many places there, so you know it just depends on what kind of fears you have towards other people, that is pretty much how people are nowadays.

I'd stay away from anything downtown Salisbury. The Victorian houses are beautiful but the area is infested with petty crimes. Do a google search for crime in Salisbury, the city publishes the areas with the most and least crime numbers. Start there and dont listen to ppl here that tell you "there isnt any crime on the shore". There is, they just refuse to see the obvious. Willards, Pittsville, Parsonsburg areas are generally crime free and IMHO much nicer. WBOC.com is the local tv channel, frequent that site and you'll get to know more about the area. Remember that the shore isnt for everyone, it is "different" living here. My .02.

if you spend your whole life trying to avoid the obvious that crime exists everywhere, then good luck .
