relocating to MD from VA
Contemplating possible relocation from Hampton Roads Va to MD. Hubby to work in Baltimore ( Frankfurst Ave) Have three children, ages 2,7,9...so focused on finding good schools and low crime. Quickly realizing that the cost of living in MD is much greater than VA. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks!

What type of neighborhood are you looking for, and what is your price range? Anne Arundel County might work well for you, as I believe Frankfurst Avenue runs through Brooklyn in South Baltimore. Linthicum, Crownsville, or Severna Park are nice areas for families.

350k? Are we going to be able to get anything worthwhile in that range? I am looking for a neighborhood where my kids can play outside, ride bikes, go for family walks. Close proximity to schools. Schools are most important. We really want the kids to be able to attend quality, public schools. We are also trying to keep the commute down to about a half hour or so. I will also be on the hunt for a preschool for the youngest, who will be three. Not daycare, just 2-3 mornings weekly. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

Re:
350 K should get you a very nice townhouse or a small single family home in anne arundel county. Not in severna park though. Try millersville or linthicum.

You could also look in Howard County. You could get a fairly nice townhome for 350 and the eastern part of the county would be close to the highways your husband would take to work. I think 30 minutes is definitely doable from eastern Ellicott City or Elkridge. The public schools are good and there are lots of preschools in the area. Or maybe Pasadena in Anne Arundel county.
I'm originally from Hampton Roads and yes, there is a huge difference in housing costs.

I'm a HR native and i like Howard County a lot. VA schools are superior to MD schools nationally, but there should not be much of a dropoff. I vote for Ellicott City.

Howard County has the best schools and very low crime, I live in Ellicott City and love it.
