Now do me a favor??? Drag about 100,000 yankees with you.

Wow, I was pretty blunt.....but you don't mind, that's your style.
To funny.. He/she keeps complaining about it..but still lives here.

What is wrong? Can't you get a job in the Large job market that everyone says is in Maryland?

What is wrong with you people? Users log on to this board when they are in the process of moving. Responding (especially over and over again) with "well, why don't you just move then?!" is just silly. 99% of the time, the person you're talking about IS moving.

And yes, the jobs in DC/MD are waaaay better than the jobs in Charlotte, or pretty much anywhere else in the South.

Default It's what you make it

qcdiva85,

You should ask your Aunt who lives here what she thinks of Maryland first. Keep in mind no matter where you go there is always good and bad points. Maryland is no exception to that. I love Maryland personnaly but others not so much. I have a list a mile long of things I love about our beauitful state just as some have one a mile long of things they don't love about Maryland. I would suggest to come visit first. Maybe your Aunt could show you some places. That way you could make your own decision. For whatever it's worth I believe Maryland is a beauitful place and we are filled with wonderful people. Everything thing you need is at most a couple hours away if not closer.

I used to love going to visit Myrtle Beach, and NC myself...loved it soo much I moved there...that lasted 11 months and I was outta there!!! Visiting and living somewhere are two totally different things. When you live somewhere for a period of time, you realize how much there is or isn't to do. I have lived in 4 states and I love Maryland the best and plan to call this my home. Yes it is expensive, but I have learned you get what you pay for. The advice I always give everyone when they ask me about places I have lived, I tell them when considering moving anywhere, go and stay for 2 weeks if you can, do not do the touristy things...act like you live there...and see if you can really really handle it. I love to be busy, I love to be near the action, the beach, the museums, the history, aquariums, top notch rest., major league sports teams...all of it!!!When I want peace and quiet I go to the south for vacation, then am excited to get back in good old MD. Also just my two cents, but I havent met many people that do not like Maryland, and where I live it is a lot of local folks not relocated out of staters like myself. I am in Anne ARundel County near Annapolis.

I love Maryland!

To answer an earlier question, Gaithersburg is okay. Good location, decent amount of stuff to do, but not that pretty IMO. Yeah, Bethesda is great but is uber-expensive. And not exactly un-snotty (to quote another poster!). Baltimore is like many cities, there are great neighborhoods and really bad neighborhoods. Obviously, look before you rent. You can find good deals in Balt, and the people are more down to earth if that's what you're looking for.

I think the positives way outweigh the negatives. In a nutshell, it's really expensive to rent (compared to most of the country) and traffic is unbelievably awful. But...there are tons of jobs, educational opportunities galore, great food, decent shopping, always always something to do between DC and Baltimore. Plus we have mountains, water, farmlands all within the state!

I would live here forever if I could.

Yeah, but the cost of living isn't. Jobs are one thing, room and board are another. You can't live at work.

Yes, but the gov't gives cost of living/inflationary salary increases to offset that, so I guess you're back at square one... I used to work for D.O.J.

but not everyone works for the government. this is what i dont' understand..there are "normal" workers out there that struggle day to day to survive in this state. Sure most of the people here that are transplanted in Frederick work for the govt. Just look at 270 in the morning. It's a big ole joke. When I lived in Mount Airy, we could get to Damascus in 10 mins, not anymore
