jessup and elkridge, OK or not?
Found a couple homes in these areas. I've heard parts of Jessup and Elkridge both are kinda sketchy and not as nice as they appear - anyone got more info on this?

Elkridge overall is a better area than Jessup, but there are sketchy areas in every area.

Which part of Jessup and which part of Elkridge are you looking at. I live in Elkridge and there's no sketchy areas really. Elkridge is in Howard County and yes there is crime but it's not the inner city where one block is okay and the next might not be.

I also live in Elkridge, and they only areas that I don't care for is areas of rte 1. Otherwise, I love it. Where are the homes in ELkridge that you're interested?

We found some houses in a certain area of Elkridge that is also right off of Hwy 1, and I'm curious if it's the one you're considering. The homes were basically modular (not trailers, but assembled from transported pieces), the prices were low, but there was ground rent that made the cost much more than the price of the home would indicate. The actual area was a gated community called New Colony Village, and although it's not as nice as it looks, it's probably not that bad a deal.
I for one, had never seen ground rent before, and I certainly wasn't going to buy a house permanently affixed to a piece of land I didn't even own. If that kind of thing makes sense to you, more power to you. Also, there's almost no yard, which probably isn't a big deal, since the gated community has some nice playgrounds and common areas. It's probably a decent deal if you're dead-set on having a single-family home. I elected for a townhouse in Columbia instead.

Elkridge is alot bigger then route 1 area with many fine neighborhoods. I'll admitt route 1 isn't a pretty site but that is changing. I've lived here for long time and don't plan on going anywhere's. So I try and look for the future.

They are doing a lot of revitilization along RTE 1 with many new developments. A friend of mine is considering Belmont Station, near the post office.
As for New Colony, we also looked at that neighborhood, but didn't like it at all. It's all crammed in there, no yards and the houses are almost on top of each other. Not enough parking, either, and it's walking distance of the trailer park (which I think they will be getting rid of in the coming years). If you narrow it down to a specific neighborhood, someone may know more about it.

That Moblie Home park is getting a facelift but it's not going anywhere's. As for the rest of the moblie home parks their not going any where's any time soon either. New Colony is very close together which is not very comfortable if you want a yard. However they are not modular homes exactly either. They are consider premanufactured homes.

as others have said rt.1 bysects both of these towns. the farther you get from rt. 1 the better things will get. for convenience you really can't beat these areas - it is close to everything: annapolis, baltimore, howard county, dc and it's right next to all of the major roads - also much cheaper than other areas close by such as columbia...but it's cheaper for a reason.
