Yes,this is pretty funny, and sad that someone can't look at a map and see that MD is quite obviously EASTERN??? I mean honestly....

I think he's talking more about attitudes/mindset than geography. Even then the state still seems nearly stereotypically Eastern or east coast, to me. For the most part.

I'm pretty sure the original post was meant to be sarcastic, and was put out there in response to the "Is Maryland northern or southern?" thread.

i don't think so - i'm not claiming to be able to read minds but new yorkers and its metro area carry a stereotype for thinking that there is nyc and then everything else...hence the ny bubble.

Pull out a road atlas of the USA and decide for yourself.

Kansas is dead mid-west.

There is so much land between MD and CA it is not a hard answer to mumble. We are close to 3K miles from the west coast. I have made the flight more than once and it ain't a short one.

MD is so little the name of the state cannot be written on it on a map. That is typical of the original colonies on the east coast.

Now hold on a minute, as a native Marylander, I can really get things confused and say that it depends on which side of the Chesapeake Bay your on, if you're on the Eastern shore, everything on the other side of the Bay is Western, if you're on the western side everything on the other side of the Bay is Eastern....... LOL...that should really confuse things..........And if you're a Yankee that's moved down here to Maryland, you're going to say we're Southern, and if you're a Southerner that's moved up here,Your going to say where Yankees.........It gets so confusing...

Mayland is considered as being both East and West, because part is East of the Chesapeake Bay and part is West including the Mountains (big hills really)

Oooops.. Didn't see your post ptsum... Sorry..

East/West of the Chesapeake is a very Maryland centric view that nobody would ever think of. East coast is states touching the atlantic ocean, period.

As far as our NY bubble, we tend to think growing up/living here is more exciting than other places, and this I would say is justifiable. The bubble isnt as close minded as you think though. We appreciate it because we get around and travel, and home is home. When you put us in a room, after we compare what blocks we are from it isnt NY centric talk. Amongst ourselves conversation is often: I went on vacation to ___ island, I went to England, Italy, Germany, France, etc in Europe, just visited relatives in NC, Florida, Arizona, NJ, CT, PA, etc. People in NY get around the country more than you think, and we arent that close minded. We dont say I hate ____ city like people often say about us. Ive camped out at Assateague, been to Bethesda, Baltimore, PG county, OC, and even Pokomoke City lol, so dont think we dont know what your state is all about.
