Question Joppa, Maryland...

I have been looking for a house in Joppa, md. People say to stay away from 7 & 40 but isn't that where all those nice subdivisions are? I also wanted to look at a house near Joppa Road, off of 40...is this area safe? If there is a crime rate does anyone know what type of crime rate it is??? Domestic disputes, car theft? I am originally from NY so I am not too concerned but don't want to be in a war zone...Thanks...Annie

There is a really long thread on Harford County where you can see lots of opinions: http://www.city-data.com/forum/maryl...rd-county.html

We looked at some houses in Joppatown, but eventually decided against it, mostly b/c there were areas of Joppatown that seemed to be on the decline.

Definitely want to stay away from Joppatowne...it's on the decline and definitely close to a drug and war zone - Edgewood. I know a lot of people that have moved away over the years, and it continues to get worse. Edgewood is probably as bad as what you see on the Wire. Joppatowne suffers because of it.

You're better off looking at Perry Hall and White Marsh. There's much more new construction there, and certainly plenty of rentals. If you need to be in that area, you're far better off lookin in places like Abingdon or Bel Air.
