PGC Public Schools
Does anyone know anything about the PGC public schools? I have been offered a job there, but have heard some horror stories. Anyone??

I used to live in Calvert County - just south of PG. Anyone I know who has children in PG schools has them in private school. Google MD school test scores and you can see how PG stacks up. Work in PG, live somewhere else.

Some are really rough. But, I would work at the one in my neighborhood in a second. All kids really need someone who will care and guide them, so if you are up for it, I say go be an inspiration. Do you know at which school you will be working? Where is it located?

I volunteer and substitute teach in Prince Georges's County. I also live in the county. I have always had good experiences. Some schools are better than others. But, all seem to be improving. Prince George's is also a great place to live, despite some of the comments on this site.

It depends on the school, and the surrounding area. It also depends on your personality, and what kind of teaching experience you're looking for.

Stay away from the Oxon Hill area. I taught at a school there and lived nearby and had nothing but bad experiences. Leadership in my school was horrible and in my 3rd grade class there were daily fist fights, students threatened to kill me numerous times and another student threw scissors at me. I also had a student who gave perscription drugs to classmates. For a 1st year teacher, it was horrible. I got out of there to Anne Arundel county and am having a much better experience.
