My personal estimation, I would say over 500 times in my 40+ years.

If that's true, then there are an awful lot of White Marylanders who have no class.

I, personally, have never witnessed such a thing in Mississippi.

I find that opening figure shocking, interested to read other responses.

How do you know they were all from Maryland? Did you ask for ID?

IH_77, when were most of those occurrences? That, to me at least, would be the most interesting part of that troubling anecdote.

If you haven't seen a black person called the N-word (directly or otherwise), then you should hang out with your black friends more. It is sad, but it certainly happens more often than you'd like to believe.

I have a black child so I'll bite (yes, I know, not the same). ZERO TIMES. I think you need to put this question in some context. Where do you live, where do you spend your time and what "social class" of people are we talking about? If you ask me this same question about other states in the country, I'll have a different response. But to this point, in Maryland, 0. I'm sorry that has been your experience; absolutely sickening.

I'm 58 and spent quite a few years in Maryland. I've never heard anybody called the N word. I have the same experience here in North Carolina. As cjmeck said above, it's the class of people that you associate with.

And how many times have you been called the same by Black people?

Hey, if the shoe fits . . .

Happens to me multiple times everyday, even before I get out of bed in the morning, and I'm white!

If you're saying just because blacks call each other that it's ok for whites or other non-blacks to do the same it's such a ridiculous attempt at justification I don't think I can even argue with you if that comment is any indication of your intelligence level. I really hate when people use that particular argument, mostly because it shows a total lack of anything but superficial thinking. Personally I don't think anyone should use that word but to say that blacks using the word is equivalent to whites using the word is just inane.
