Is Beltsville as Bad as They Say? (Baltimore, Laurel: apartment, rental)

Within 3 miles is a Target, Kohls another grocery store and Ikea. You are probably 13 miles to a good shopping mall. It is a diverse area as are all the communities around the Washington D.C. area. If you don't like diversity, move someplace else.

The Howard County side of Laurel/Savage near the Historic Savage Mill is very nice. I rent a 3 bedroom townhome in bowling brook complex for $1750 a month..not bad at all. Has a finished basement, plenty of parking, very quiet safe neighborhood.

Beltsville is kind of run-down, I would definitely recommend Southern Howard County around where I live. Dont rent at bowling brook apartments tho, that place has terrible reviews. Look for townhomes in craigslist or something.

Commute would only be 15 minutes or so for you.

Beltsville is renovated. The area is getting much better/nicer. The county is building new shopping centers all over Beltsville. I think the area is nice/clean with nice older homes/communities.

But you have to admit PG county in general is not nearly as desirable as Howard County, especially in terms of schools. But living in Beltisville youd be closer to mass transit for getting into DC

i hear beltsville on the news enough to know that it's not the safest place to live...there are plenty of places to live in Baltimore that are very safe but overall I wouldn't recommend you move to Baltimore if you were looking for a safe place to live...follow me?

Tell you the truth I have never hear Beltsville on the news.
Once metro goes into Howard county, the county will change.

When you hear about Beltsville in the news, it usually isn't about crime. There was one murder, a long time ago, at some bar over near the Giant store and that's it. Beltsville has some small areas I would want to live in, but I'd buy a house i n the good area without a seconds hesitation if I could afford it.

Beltsville is not run down, it was never built up. Its not like it was a shining example of a picture perfect suburban area. It has historically been an industrial area and the Route 1 area reflects that. However, its never been known as a "bad" area, perhaps just ugly. Right now it is going through changes like many other areas in Maryland and is starting to beautify itself and putting in some nicer developments and updating some of the shopping areas. There aren't any big box stores there yet but all those are just a few miles up the road anyway.

thanks, this sounds like a good area. i'm not finding many listings for properties in laurel on craigslist.
