Perhaps Westsideboy will chime in. Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone knows a good address or vantage point to get a decent photo of Downtown Cumberland with all the mountains and major buildings in the background. Thanks!

Three options:

1. The parking garage on George St. across from the Ramada. Go up to the top floor and you will see a very familiar perspective of the town, this is a common vantage point for many of the modern photos you see.

2. The C&O Canal Parkway/Trail. There isn't any great places to pull off the parkway, but if you walk down the canal far enough east, you can look back and get a good shot of town. This is a historic vantage point that is often seen in old photos of Cumberland as well.

3. The mayor's monument at Constitution Park. This is a more panaramoic view looking down at the city. The city itself is rather small, but you can see all of West Side and North End and Downtown. This view is a local favorite, but not one you see too much in pictures. Personally, it is best view to really capture how big nature is, and how the city has to squeeze itself into the valley.
