Anyone know folks who work on the military base and commute back to the MD suburbs daily? Is it doable or hell-on-earth as some people may describe it? I've been told to avoid driving across the river daily if I want to keep my sanity.

Any other recommended cities to live in between Ft Belvoir and Rockville (assuming a couple that works in both cities)?

I'd suggest North Arlington. The Rockville commuter can take the Chain Bridge Road across to DC, and out through Wisconsin Ave. The Fort Belvoir commuter takes the GW Parkway past the airport.

I had a commute similar to that for about 4 years on and off. Depending on your hours, that would probably one of the worse commutes in this region EVER. Fort Belvior is a headache coming in AND getting out....Rockvile/Silver Spring are both headaches coming AND going....

If you are going to make that commute, get an EZ-PASS and leave as early as possible. Once it's past 6-6:30, you are easily looking at an 1hr 1/2 without an EZ-PASS

If I had my choice, I'd probably say live in Fall Church/Tysons. It gets backed up over there too, but at least you are halfway through.
