My husband and I are buying a house. I love the Fort Washington Area. What are the best communities in Fort Washington?? I know that Tantallon is one of them. I would like to be in that area or one similar. Opinions????

Fort Washington is a very nice area so anywhere you decide to live in Fort Washington will be safe. The area is very low key and the population is low. The folks who live in that area are working class folks. The entire city is rural so you will not criminals wanting to drive to Fort Washington to commit crime. I live in Upper Marlboro and I always consider it rural until took a trip to Fort Washington area.
If you are looking for new homes check out some of the builders website such as

Fort Washington is not rural, but it is nice. One caution, though. The state is going to try and get gambling approved for the Harbor project. In my opinion that makes the area undesirable. However, as it stands now, it's a very nice area. Tantallon is the nicest.

Which Tantallon development are you refering to. There is Tantallon on the Potomac, Tantallon North, Tantallon South, Tantallon Square, Tantallon Hills, Tantallon Estates (new homes), and Tantallon Preserve (new homes). Homes are usually priced at about $400K and up. Tantallon on the Potomac has water front property and views of the golf course.
There are a lot of nice places to live in Fort Washington. You'll find homes in all price ranges. It just depends on what you're looking for. You could try Aragona Village, Steed/ Steeds Grant, Broad Creek, Trent Hall, Indian Queen (I think there are homes with water views), and several others.

Parts of Ft. Washington has great homes on large lots. Sera Estates is one of the best neighborhoods in Maryland.

Iscalder and liliblue, I didn't say they WERE approved, but the state is going to TRY to get it approved. The biggest hotel down there, can't think of the name, is only there in hopes that slots will be approved. But don't take my word for it. Just watch the upcoming legislation. I just hope the residents will be proactive and stand against it.
