I knew I should have checked that. It was in the back of my mind when typing my message, but I got distracted and hit send anyway. Forget I said anything. The Kentlands is nice.

So, how do you like that area? Is the commute really difficult? Is it a safe area? Is it easy to find a roommate or rent something out? Thanks!

I can't say how easy it is to find a roommate, or to rent out, but I can tell you that it is a pretty nice place. I spend most of my time going to stores there and I like driving through there. Definitely safe there. As far as commute, that would depend on where to. If to DC, it is kind of long, but thousands obviously do it everyday so...There is a Ride-On Bus route (76) that goes from there to Shady Grove Metro. It doesn't take long and the commute on Metro to downtownis 30 minutes. Hope that helps.

It's the Kentland community in Gaithersburg, MD. It's that area between Quince Orchards, Great Seneca, Muddy Branch, Rt 28.

How are the schools in the area?

Thanks.

There is a Kentlands in Gaithersburg that is a planned community, family oriented, etc...

There is also an unincorporated area in PG County called Kentland. They have a fire department and a few thousand people out around Landover.

The Kentlands is bisected by Redland Blvd., which serves to divide the community into two different high school clusters: Richard Montgomery to the south, and Gaithersburg HS (I think) to the north. There's a BIG difference between those two schools.

I don't know much about the elementary or middle schools the Kentlands feed into, though.

You're confusing it with the other area in Rockville. I'm not sure, but some students go to Quince Orchard HS while others go to Northwest HS in Germantown (this is the part that confuses me - my daughter told me this (she will go to Quince Orchaqrd next year)). I thought they all went to Quince Orchard since it is so close and it is a good school. Kentlands also has an elementary school right in the community. I think kids there go to Ridgeview Middle School which is real closeby.

You're right. I'm thinking of King Farm. I get KF and the Kentlands mixed up sometimes.

But the Kentlands is separated into two different high school clusters, too, as you say: Quince Orchard and Northwest. It's kind of odd.

There will be a re-alignment some time in the next 10 years, I was told by someone at the MCPS school assignment office. Over by Washingtonian Blvd./the Rio, a new high school will be built on the Aventienne (sp?) development. When that's done, residents in the area will get re-assigned. This will affect families that are assigned to Quince Orchard, Wootten, and possibly Northwest. I have a feeling people living in the northern-most reaches of the Wootten cluster are going to be PISSED.

That's interesting. It sounds like it will affect us. I don't know if this is good news or bad news yet.

The Kentlands is a wonderful place to live. I know quite a few single people who live there as well since there are plenty of apartments, townhomes and single family homes. You can be walking distance to Whole Foods, Giant grocery store, large movie theater complex, and many restaurants and shops. It has great access to 270 and the Rio shopping area with Dick's Sporting Goods, Target, Kohl's, Ann Taylor loft, Rio Grande restaurant, and yet another huge movie theater and tons of shops there as well.
