Laurel and Silver Spring are good choices, but I do not think you will find 2 bedrooms for $1000. Do you really need 2 bedrooms, or is that just desirable?

Are you working at Chevy Chase Bank or *in* Chevy Chase? I think Baltimore is too far to commute to Chevy Chase. However, you might try Glen Burnie if your budget is that limited and you have to have 2 bedrooms.

Basically, you can chose between safety and price. There are 2 bedroom places in your budget in Hyattsville, Riverdale and Mount Rainier, but I would check them out in person to see if you would be comfortable there. Also check a crime website.

If safety is the major priority, I would look for a 1-bedroom in a high-rise in Silver Spring, Calverton, or College Park. Additionally, If you are commuting by the Red Line Metro, I would look at Rockville and Gaithersburg. All of these areas will have some Indian population.

It is also important to know whether you will have to pay for parking a car in Chevy Chase. It could be that commuting by Metro is cheaper than parking the car. If you are using Metro, then it is better to be in Rockville or Gaithersburg.

Silver Spring is probably your best bet. You may find a 2br within that price range, but most likely it will be a 1br/1ba. Rent in laurel is reasonable as well, however 495 is a monster during rush hour and it will take more than 30 minutes to get to Chevy Chase from Laurel. If you expand your commute time, you will find lower rental rates.
