Specific areas in Gaithersburg/Mont. Village
Looking to get a home in the Gaithersburg area -- familiar with the area but not the individual "villages," etc.
can anyone provide advice as to the following -
1. Flower Hill
2. The Points (MV)
3. Charlene (MV)
4. Really Park
5. Whetstone
6 Mineral Spring Village
7. Emory Grove Park
8. Wexford (Germantown?)
9. Mill Creek South
10. Hunters Woods
11. Stedwick
Rockville -
1. Maryvale
2. Rock Creek Park
3. Croyden Park
Not so worried about schools as children are not elem. aged yet and most likely will go to parochial. But want to live in a decent area so will pay for the better school cluster is we can.
Maybe a better question is any areas that should be avoided - no matter how appealing the list price?? We have a tendency to look for fixer upper types but obviously don't want to be the best on the block or completely overimproved for the area,. .
Not sure if it's just the market driving down these prices or something else - just a few months ago you couldn't put in a search database for Mont. Co anything detached with 4 bedrooms for under 500K.

I live in Gaithersburg, but I am not really able to answer about the areas you mentioned. I only go to the Trader Joe's in Montgomery Village so I don't know so much about that part of the state.

I'm not familiar with all of those that you have listed, but I have heard some postive things about Whetstone, Stedwick (the townhomes not the condos), Flower Hill, and Mill Creek South.
The neighborhoods in Rockville might be a bit more convienent and easier to resell. Croyden Park is a nice area close to the new Rockville Town Center.
You also might want to look at the East Village of Montgomery Village as this area is the newer and more prestigious part.
Crimereports.com is also a useful tool to give you an idea of what crimes occur.

Gaithersburg Area
I have lived in Montgomery County my entire life... Personally, I would avoid most of the areas that you have mentioned. Flower Hill has a bad reputation. If you are interested in the Village, East Village is nice. Darnestown is also very nice.

I agree with Toolwells.......
I'm 28 and have lived in Montgomery County all my life as well and have aunts/uncles/parents that have also lived here all their lives.
I have currently lived in Montgomery Village for the last 7 years, and now that I have kids, I'm looking to get out. There's too many issues and people that aren't into the neighborhood (so their houses fall apart) and most of the "kids" are little punks.......
There are nice parts (I think it's the "East Village" - behind the new Safeway @ Goshen)........I would avoid Flower Hill and Emory Grove.....it's not a reputation, it's a reality.....trust me.....lived there for quite a few years when I was younger, and not much has changed (except the names that used to have the reputation)....
Darnestown/Quince Orchard are nice places..........for $500k you may even find something in Milestone (Germantown).......
