Default where to leave my car if I am traveling for a month?

Hi I am currently living in Silver Spring, MD and will be traveling oversea for a month. I park my car at the Wayne Parking garage on Wayne/Georgia. I don't feel safe to leave my car there for a month. Do people have any suggestion on where to leave my car? is there a private garage for rent on a short term? Thanks!

where are you leaving from? when?

if you're flying from BWI you might want to park there. specifically, there's a parking garage (actually 2) at the BWI Amtrak station. they have a monthly rate for commuters -- i think it's about $60. i take the marc train into d.c. and park there regularly, including several times over the last few years when i've been out of town for 2-3 weeks at a time. since i pay for a monthly marc ticket, my parking is included (which is why i'm not sure of the parking-only rate).

you could just sign up for a month and then cancel after you get back.

since it's a garage (versus a lot) it's covered, and it's monitored. i've been parking there for over 8 years and have never heard of any issues from fellow commuters about break-ins, damage, etc. the first 4 levels of the garage are always in use by commuters, so it's a high traffic area that, i think, would discourage anyone looking to smash and grab.

it may take you a couple of days to get your account set up and the key card...if i remember correctly they had to mail me the key card, so if you're leaving within the next week it might not be an option.

happy travels.

Is the long term lot at the airport not an option?

How about a local auto repair shop in their lot?

Post a thing on craigslist and I'm sure you'd get an offer from someone with a garage in Silver Spring probably.

Rent a spot at one of those "U store it" type places. Sometimes they offer the 1st month free! But you could probably rent a unit big enough for your car for 1 month at a good rate.

Don't forget to disconnect your battery when you park it so it won't drain for a month!
