Default Rosewood Condos in Gaithersburg, MD (20879)

I will be moving to MD in the near future from NYC. Presently I'm worried about the prospects of securing good housing. I will be completing a fellowship in MD for two years. My salary during the 1st year will be 50K and in the second year 65K. After I complete the fellowship, my salary will jump to 85K, etc..

I would prefer to buy a condo now, but it seems like my present income will not be enough. However, while searching online, I came across the rosewood condos in Gaithersburg, MD. These condos seem very reasonably priced...
Just wondering if anyone is familiar with the development and general area.

I have a few questions and I'm hoping that someone can provide answers to the following:

1. Is it a good / safe neighborhood?
2. Is it a diverse community?
3. How far is the development from Bethesda and DC?
4. Is it next to a metro stop?
5. What is the town of gaithersburg like? (Is it primarily for families, or do singles reside there as well)?

Also, if this is not a good area, can you recommend a nice place/community?

Thanks in advance!

I went to their website and checked their map. I'm not familiar with the condos themselves, but the general area around there is pretty nice. It's a couple of miles from the Metro. There is a Ride-On bus route near there that goes to Shady Grove Metro. I have used that bus once or twice. 370 is about the same distance as the Metro Station (actually just before the station) and from there to 270. I would guess that driving to Bethesda from there, on a day without traffic, would take 15-20 minutes. To DC 30-40 minutes. With traffic, to DC, would take anywhere from an hour to 2 hours, depending on where in DC. However, the Metro to downtown only takes 30 minutes plus the time from the condo to the Metro station. That's as much as I know.

Hunt Valley is FAR FAR FAR from bethesda and DC because it's up north of Baltimore City! You're looking at an incredibly long commute into Bethesda and DC from there (via either I-70 to I-270 or I-95 to I-495)!

Just wanted to follow up on this. I'm also considering Rosewood condos... Looks like a great deal. Anyone else know anything about these condos, or the area in general? Thanks!

Anyone?? I've heard some bad things about the 'Flower Hill' area.... These are right off Midcounty, and not far from Hidden Creek townhouses... looks like a good enough area. Any thoughts??

I live in the Summer Ridge Condominiums in Flower Hill--just down the street. I bought my condo in 1993. From time to time you'll hear about some break ins--no more so than any other area though. I personally have never experienced any crime--to me, my condo, or my car. You can actually look this up on an interactive map at the WashingtonPost.com website.

I think it's a pretty decent area. The Ride-On bus takes you anywhere and you're close to I-270. Giant Food is right next door, and a trip down rt 355 to Rockville will bring you to a host of different cuisines, especially Asian.
