IMO, Easton's downtown is the best amongst any of the Eastern Shore Cities.
Regardless, don't move anywhere on the ES expecting tons of entertainment, jobs & a wide variety of food options. The ES is quaint, rural by comparison, and less expensive than the rest of MD.

I agree with mdswines. If you move here(the shore) looking for entertainment or a plethora of jobs you will be horribly disappointed and poor. Many ppl retire here for a reason, they have already made their money and dont have to find a good paying job here. Living here is definitely an acquired taste. Everything gets done MUCH slower, which may seem ok right now but trust me it will eventually infuriate you when you need something pronto.
One other thing, search on this forum to get a little more insight and other members opinions. Ive found that there are a select few posters that, whenever the shore is mentioned, talk it up like its the best place on earth despite the obvious flaws that are present here. Im one of those that gives you a different perspective without the rosey glasses that some have a problem removing. Regardless, good luck with your decision.

Just don't be offended if a true Eastern Shore person calls you a "chicken-necker" - They mean it in a NICE way

There are definitely times that I really like it here and other times that I absolutely loathe it.
Jobs are a definite negative. If I was not self-employed, I probably would've moved years ago.
The ES is not a horrible place but neither is it the utopia that some make it out to be.

Wow - I cross that bridge on the ride home every day and where it says "Queen Annes County" I just SMILE knowing I am back home.
"not horrible"?
I think it is wonderful - no place is utopia - but the Eastern Shore sure comes close (for me)
YMMV

Just want to point out that Bethany Beach is really nice too. At least it was when I was last there, which has been a while. Maybe someone else could chime in on that?

You're right,Bethany is supposed to be more upscale. That's probably why we didn't stay there; couldn't afford it. lol

eastern shore of maryland folks there were alot of watermen and locals, they fished crabs with crab pots....recreational crabbers (mostly from the western shore) fished crabs with chicken necks on a string....thus the name chicken neckers.
To some its just a joke to others its no joke....I think the native eastern shore folk believe they are being overrun (and they are) by transplants.
you will also hear the terms "born heres" and "come heres".
That said its really nothing to worry about...its the same in any state with rampent growth....some will feel overrun. In maryland we seem to have this thing where people move to the country becuase they love the idea of living in a rural setting....then they bring all the chain stores, fast food and poor driving habits and soon the country looks just like suburbia.
Mdswines where do you live? it is a dieing term but still used in areas with lots of old locals....I would imagine on Kent Island and Easton its not heard much anymore. I hear Born heres and come heres much more often now.
