My wife and are possibly relocating to Maryland for work, and are looking for a nice area to buy a house. We currently live in NJ, but are not very familiar with the greater Baltimore area. We have 2 small children (4 and 2) so a nice neighborhood is important to us. I will have to commute to the Dundalk area of Baltimore, and I don't want anything longer than 45 minutes hopefully.

Any suggestions or insight into a nice area to buy a SFH, with good school districts, activities, and other young families would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Absolutely no offense intended to Dundalk residents but, You could not pay me to live there, or Essex for that matter. Consider commuting from north Baltimore County or Hartford County. It will be worth the commute.

Price range?

One place you don't want to look for a home is in Dundalk.

The areas that straddle I-95 offer a LOT of choices. MAP LINK
All of them within your commute range.

Almost any of these areas (even Dundalk itself) will be okay enough to rent in
for the year or two you should take to learn your way around before buying.
