Mr. Jealous isn't merely misguided; he's downright dangerous. I hope that enough Marylanders have the good sense to make sure he doesn't get anywhere near Annapolis.

Hold up, even as a Republican, I can see that we in the US incarcerate WAY too many nonviolent criminals, with minor drug use and then being poor and black the primary reason for it. We can save a LOT of money by not paying to lock up a person with a couple grams of MJ.

I'm voting for Hogan (I want to reward moderate Republicans for being what the party used to be about), but I'm also for reducing our incarceration numbers and costs.

Why I'm so split on voting for him. Although he will certainly manage to legalize it, at what cost (as in what passable policies are left that are advantageous over Hogan? I guess he has 4 months to come up with that list.

See I am torn on the non violent incarcerations .I agree there are way to many but then I see the white collar crime, bankers and such get away and I want someone to pay when people lose their life savings or pensions!

But they aren't the ones in jail. The primary bulk of it is minor drug possession and then being too poor to fight it. White collar crime is severely underrepresented.

They may not have been that bad when they went in, but who have they been hanging out with since?

Are you acknowledging that prison does more harm than good to a nonviolent person?

You cannot rule it out. I believe there should be, and I think there are in many cases, different levels of incarceration for violent versus non violent prisoners. I would never go as far to say that we should never send non violent criminals to the hokey. They sometimes are very deserving of punishment, and keeping them from victimizing more people is a good move. Many people may make one mistake that warrants prison time, but considering that I could make such a mistake, I would much rather do my time with other non violent people.

I disagree with that but I do agree with the part about "white collar" crime.

Simple, the prison system needs to a pretty job of catching real criminals and not someone with a small amount of weed.
