What about Waldorf?
My husband is being transferred to Andrews Air Force Base. I have found a home in the Streamview community in Waldorf I am interested in renting. Any advice? Is this a decent neighborhood? What about the commute to AAFB? Mapquest says it is just 16 miles away. Thanks for any words of wisdom.

Waldorf is ok. The traffic is bad but you will survive. Waldorf have plenty of shopping and dining.

Personally, I really like streamview and ashford oaks (the community it connects to) The commute is 30-45 minutes depending on traffic, and because you're in Waldorf it's a convenient commute to the local mall, shopping, eateries, etc.

I thought a 45 minute commute for 16 miles explained that?

What about Upper Marlboro
thanks for the input on Waldorf. Still a possibility because I really like the homes I finding there on the web. However, what about Upper Marlboro? Is the commute better as far as traffic? But this would put me farther from the community college in La Plata. Any suggestions? Both seem like decent communities to rent a home in. thanks, The Carmicals - Andrews bound in Aug 08.

Your commute for Upper Marlboro would be a bit shorter, but for a range of amenities, I think Waldorf has more to offer. You're more likely to drive to Bowie for conveniences if you live in UM, whereas Waldorf seems more convenient to me. Rental prices also seem better in Waldorf, although they are getting cheaper in UM.

Upper Marlboro is more quiet, less traffic and more of a place away from the city but close to the city. You will wake up to fresh clean air with plenty of trees. Waldorf do have more shopping and dining then Upper Marlboro. Upper Marlboro is not known for shopping or dining. The city try their best to protect Mother nature from these developers. Upper Marlboro is more of a quiet family suburban area.

Waldorf is a strip mall heaven. If you are into places like Applebees & Chilis then its perfect.
