Post Relocating to DC area for a job that is located in Bethesda but is relocating to Virginia

I have been reading all the posts and have a couple of questions about the DC area. I am from the Hampton Roads Area in Virginia and am taking a job in Bethesda. I know that it is considerably more expensive to live in Virginia than in Maryland (working with a budget of only $300k). I thought about renting but no one will accept my Rottweiler. I have narrowed my search to the Upper Marlboro area, my question is how bad will the commute be from Upper Marlboro to Bethesda. I also wanted to know if anyone has also done the commute from Upper Marlboro to Fort Belvoir. Are there any other areas I should consider since I will eventually end up at Fort Belvoir?

You will like living in Upper Marlboro. My husband use to work in Fort belvoir and had no problem driving to work. Driving it took him about 45 minutes.

Upper Marlboro to Bethesda is not going to be a fun commute.

My husband used to live in Morningside (Andrews AFB) and would commute up to White Flint area. . . that is still a solid distance from Bethesda and it was not pretty. You are talking Beltway driving (everyone and their mother on the road) and a long distance in between points; maybe College Park/beltsville area would be better if you want to stay in PG county and be considerably closer to Bethesda when you walk out the door in the morning.

How long would you say the commute would be from Upper Marlboro to Bethesda?

Have you tried the Montgomery Gazette's website and Long and Foster's website for more rental listings? I see so many houses for rent in Rockville, I have to believe someone will allow your dog.

I know that on a good day with no traffic, it is about a half hour from District Heights to Bethesda. Upper Marlboro is much further away. Toss in the traffic and I would guess it is a lot longer than a half hour.

Live closer to work, that is all I can say. That commute is going to take a toll after a while.
