Racism has lost its teeth because its used too often when it should not be.. this could be a clear case of racism but that word has little meaning to me any more.. If this league was racist, then seems to me as though the Mustangs would be anxious to leave and find another league to play in. Someone in the article noted that they had been around 40 years.. and this is their first year in this league, so they are used to finding new homes..

It certainly is lousy for the kids but my kid would have stopped participating the first time i heard a racist word aimed at him or his team from the opposing teams stands... i would never have stood for that let alone kept indulging in it..

I disagree with this and it's a dangerous position to take. You hear about racism more because technology has allowed more incidents of racism to be brought into the social conscience. BEfore it was hearsay by Whites and talked about at kitchen tables in the black community. Technology has now brought that kitchen table conversation to more individuals through social media.

Now, as racism happens, people speak up and out about it through social media. More public figures are empowered to speak out about it.

There are people who think black people being randomly shot by police is some new phenomenon. But it has been happening since Reconstruction. Discrimination has been going on since the first slave ships reached the shores of Virginia and South Carolina.

And it's dangerous to think that racism is somehow a dirty word because we hear more about it. Incidents of racism should be called out whenever and wherever it happens until we as a country wake up and realize that racism still exists pervasively in this country and we all make an effort to stamp it out.

The group responsible for dispensing racism and allowing it to flourish from apathy because they aren't affected should not get to dictate when or how a victim of racism should expose it. How arrogant to suggest that racism is used as a crutch by the victims of racism. and it is this thinking that keeps the country from moving forward.

Should the Jewish victims in Pittsburgh try to find another word to describe what happened to them because racism has "lost its teeth?"

I think "murdered" is a pretty good way to describe what happened to those Jewish people in Pittsburgh. Get back to me when this Pee Wee football fluff-up reaches anything near that level of importance.

People move to Carroll County in order to get away from all the problems that Baltimore and it's spillover communities have. Why would anyone willingly import those problems?

Quote:
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
-- Martin Niemöller

And I'll add a line at the beginning:

"First, they came for the African American, and I did not speak out - because I was not African American"

Those who are silent are complicit embolden and empower those who come for others. I will continue to stand on my soapbox until African Americans as a group are no longer targets of racism just like those before me.
