We braved the 40 degree, 10-15 mPH wind, and rain to play on Sunday. i was impressed with the course. Admittedly, I was expecting a Cross-Creek'ish course, and that is not a good thing in my book. Cross Creek is another golf course community in PG by the same builder and I think the course was poorly designed. The fairways there are too tight, probably in an attempt to get as much building space for houses as possible.
Oak Creeks course is not as open as some of the courses here in NOVA, but still it is very playable. It has plenty of length and the houses do not intrude on the course (hopefully as the community continues to grow, this will still be the case). The tee boxes and fairways were in great shape. The greens looked good, even though they had been aerated. Once they are cut and rolled, they will be fast and consistent.
I liked the lay-out a lot...especially the 5 par-5's. The holes are spread-out and some have a long drive between holes, but I think this is a good thing; the holes are not cramped together. The drives between the holes were scenic, aften crossing over the creek and through the woods, over bridges, etc.
All and all, I would rate the course a strong 7. Once the course grows in during the spring and the greens are manicured, an 8. Oh, the course did not have distance marked yet...ANYWHERE. I assume this will be done soon and depending on the volume of markers they provide, the couse will easily be an 8.5 in my book. Definitely worth the membership fee if we decide to go with Oak Creek.
