horrible stabbing outside my hs (Hyattsville, New Carrollton: how much, neighborhoods, schools)

How awful. Anybody see the story? It was all over the news, about the 15 year old who was stabbed outside Parkdale. Everytime I drive by, I see the memorial sitting at the site. My best freind, who teaches there, actually had this boy in her class last year. She was very upset, and saddened. I hope this makes them crack down on the gangs in schools so the children can feel safe again. Apparently, Parkdale has a noticeable gang presence. Amazing how much is changed in 10 years. I don't remember there being anything about gangs when I was there.

It was kind of shocking because the area isn't a bad area at all. I would never have expected it to happen where it did.

Yes that was really sad, but when I went there in the 94-95 school year there was neighborhoods beefing all the time.

I was there in 94-95! I don't remember many problems coming into the school, though- although, my senior year we had a lot of car thefts from the student parking lot.

Actually, if you look at everything that's gone on in Riverdale/Hyattsville/New Carrollton area in the last couple of years, it's gone downhill quite a bit. It's very disturbing to me, because it's my hometown and my grandmother and mother still live there, so we spend a lot of time there. Just in the last month or 2 there's been a lot of shooting/stabbing incidents. Hopefully it will be quiet for awhile.
