Hi,
I am a 22 year old thinking about relocating to Annapolis. Is there much to do in Annapolis? Are there people around my age or is it more of a place to raise a family? Does it have more of a city feel? Any feedback would be appreciated. |

as a 24 yr old who relocated to annapolis I have to say it is a fantastic area. There are great places near by no matter what you are in the mood for. Nice place to raise a family as well though. It has more of a small fishing town feel than city. Great downtown area.

Please respond to the "higher than normal VIOLENT crime rates" cited in many publications.
What would cause this is such a relatively small place? If you look at citydata.com stats, the crime rate is well above the national average. I visited Annapolis many years ago and fell in love with the place. It's a shame that it seems to be following in the footsteps of DC and Baltimore with regard to crime. |

The stats on the crime is somewhat skewed because of the small number of people. A vast majority of the crime occurs in the public housing areas. There are many many wonderful areas of annapolis to live, just stay away from areas around public housing.

For a small town there are a number of public housing areas that have a higher than normal crime rates. Annapolis is technically somewhat small (35,000+). Not many towns that size have public housing so the numbers are a tad skewed because of that fact and the overall population size.

I've lived in the Annapolis area for over 7 years. I have never witness or felt like I could be a victim of a violent crime. The "rougher" areas aren't really close to the "tourist" areas. It's a great city...we miss it!

Oh and the night life is great for a 22 year old. We had a lot of fun before we had our little one!
Dpending on what you do for a living though, think about purchasing a home. The real estate taxes are really low, which allows for more flexibility for purchasing! |

I don't know where you are from but the property taxes aren't that cheap. I live in Annapolis - Broadneck area in a rinky dink split foyer and the taxes are nearing $3000

My taxes are 2200 for a duplex with a decent size yard. You need to remember the reason property taxes are high here is because what your home is worth is MORE then it would be elsewhere. I believe in AACo, taxes run around 1.10...which really isnt so bad. But when I have a duplex that is worth 320K, and sodaking you living in Broadneck, I am sure your house is worth 370K and you would probably put it on the market for MORE then that?

Annapolis is a great place to live for someone your age, and there is so much to do! It is a wonderful, walkable city and I really think you will enjoy it.
