Default Commute Question North Beach To Aafb

I am a military member that is relocating to Andrews AFB. I am looking for a neighborhood with a decent commute time (preferably no more than 45 min). I have two elementry age children and want to make sure their in a good school district. My wife is also back in college and would need one with a relativley close commute so she could be home when the kids go to school and when they get home. We are currently looking at places between Shady Side and North Beach. We are completly unfamiliar with the area except for what we've learned on Mapquest and SCHOOLMATTERS.COM. If anything my childrens education is most important to us for looking. But if anyone can help figure out a real drive time that would be great.

I think the best schools in that area are North Calvert - but not necessarily the beach area. Look at Mt. Harmony, Sunderland, Huntingtown - all excellent elementary schools

Check for houses in Dunkirk and Owings and Huntingtown, slightly better schools than the ones around North Beach (but only by a bit--the numbers are pretty good for most of Calvert County).

The commute from the Beach would be about 25-30 minutes to AAFB. From Dunkirk maybe 15-20 depending on when you left and where you lived.

Shady Side is a great place to live with small children the schools are good a lot of young families in the area and the commute to andrews is 45min. a lot of people in this area work at andrews and lots of stay at home moms go to the community college during the day while the kids are in school. Also some nice homes for sale in the area.

I have a brother who has raised a family in North Beach and he travels close to AAFB..actually a little further and they have loved it there. I've never heard him complain about the schools and his kids are now 14 and 16. My brother would not put up with bad schools all these years and would have either moved or put the kids in private school.

They live in a townhouse community called "Chesapeake Lighthouse Estates" off of 5th street. Its not down by the beach area, about 2 miles away or so. Very nice if your looking for a town house. Moderator cut: Please, no reference or links to specific homes. Thanks.

PS my Father worked at AAFB for over 30 years.
